Qigong Mindful Movement - Winter Sequence (Water Element)
With Addie deHilster
Qigong (or Qi Gong or Chi Gong) is a gentle mindful movement and energy practice. Based on Chinese Medicine and Taoist philosophy, these practices take inspiration from nature and help us harmonize with the rhythms of each season.
Over the next few months, I will be offering beginner-friendly Qigong routines for balancing the Water Element Energy of Winter (Kidney/Bladder Meridians). Note: these practices are still beneficial if you're in the Southern Hemisphere and it's currently Summer!
When in balance, Water Element energy supports flow, cohesion, and a refilling of our energy reserves. As we observe in nature, Winter is a time of hibernation, rest, and germination. This slower Yin time in the seasonal cycle helps us prepare for the new growth to come in Spring. Working with the Kidney/Bladder meridians also helps to regulate our energy and repair the impacts of stress.
The Qigong practices are mostly done standing, but sitting in a chair is always an option, too. Each week you'll see some repeat moves to build familiarity, and we'll also slowly build in some new forms as we go. Feel free to join in, even if you missed previous weeks!
