In this practical video, we gently explore how to find and bring out the harmonic ranges in singing bowls using different mallets. Each mallet interacts with the bowl in a unique way, revealing subtle layers of sound that are often not realized. This is a simple, practical exploration—inviting you not only to play, but to listen more deeply. Whether you are new to singing bowls or already familiar with them, this approach can open a more refined and intuitive relationship with sound.

Hello and welcome.

This is Pratika.

I have another video that was just published on the,

Basically more on tuning forks than on singing bowls,

And I wanted to share with you something quite exciting that I have only,

Would you believe,

Just realized about the singing bowl that I have here.

Now,

For those practitioners who are using singing bowls,

These are the Nepalese hand-beaten singing bowls.

This particular one is a nine-inch bowl,

So it's fairly heavy.

Now,

When you're using these over a client,

One of the things you need to be mindful of is that the harmonics that come from the bowls can be very impactful for the client.

So,

When you are sounding them,

Particularly around the ears,

Which can be very sensitive for people,

When you sound them,

It's always advisable to start sounding them when they're away at some distance from the ear,

And then gradually bring the bowl in as the body's energetics become accustomed to that particular harmonic range.

Then you can just gradually bring the bowl in closer and closer and closer.

But be also always mindful that it's good to ask your clients,

Are you sensitive?

Are your ears sensitive?

So,

You immediately know that you have to be cautious,

But anyway,

Just be cautious because if you do this to yourself,

You'll realize how impactful the vibrations can be as it enters the whole body system.

So,

These are very,

Very powerful,

And I think when you're working closely with a client,

As I used to do for many years,

You always have to be mindful,

Particularly when you bring these bowls around a client's head,

All right?

It's a lot safer and a lot more convenient for them in terms of comfort levels to be working more around the body.

But when you are working around the head,

And there's every reason why you should,

Rather than necessarily place the bowl directly opposite the ear,

You could place it higher when they're lying down on a massage table,

Just place it above their head,

And then the sound is not so intense.

But the benefit is just the same because it's actually entering straight through the crown chakra.

Now,

What I discovered after doing the previous video,

As I just mentioned,

I had the inspiration to share more about sounding the bowl and using different mallets.

Now,

What I'll do,

And I'll give you an example now,

And I'll just have to be mindful how close I am to the microphone,

But these large mallets,

Which have like a soft but firm packed head on a wooden handle,

These give a very beautiful tone when you're using them,

Particularly with big bowls,

And it's a much deeper tone.

You can also use them on small bowls,

But I'll just give you an example.

So that's a very soft tap.

I can go harder.

I just have to move it away so your hearing isn't affected.

Hear the difference in the volume?

Really intense.

So when you're working generally,

It's about the mid-range I have found is the most beneficial for the client.

But also,

Don't forget that you're using the bowl,

So your energy is being affected by the resonance and harmonics of this bowl.

Now,

The benefits of these big bowls,

Or any of the hand-beaten bowls,

Is that they have a range of harmonics.

It's just not one particular note that you're going to be hearing,

Particularly if you change from these bigger mallets down to these smaller suede-covered ones,

Mallets,

And they're very different in sound.

And then when you sound them,

By running the mallet around the outside edge of the bowl,

Hear the difference?

It's your choice as to which one you find.

You can ask the client,

You know,

Which of these do you prefer.

But sometimes if they say they prefer one more than another,

It may be that the energy of the one that they don't prefer is actually doing more work,

But it's making them feel uncomfortable.

So you just have to manage that as best you can in the field of the harmonics within their own bodies.

Now,

These big bowls,

You can see how I'm holding it there,

They're fairly heavy.

So when you're working with a client,

You can support your hand like this by resting this part of the back side of your hand.

You can actually just gently rest it on the client's body,

Around their chest,

Around their stomach,

Because if you're hanging onto this for any length of time,

It is quite difficult to hold it and manage the weight carefully while you're working with the client.

So you can just ask them,

Can I just gently rest this against your body,

Because the vibration will come from the bowl into your hand and then straight out from your hand,

As well as radiating out into the body generally as well.

You can rest the bowls directly on a client's clothing,

But you run the risk then of actually dampening the sound,

Because if you hold the bowl like this,

Or you can hold the bowl like this,

Don't curl your fingers around the bowl like this,

Because it'll dampen the harmonics,

It'll dampen the length of the vibrational frequencies that you're going to be hearing and feeling.

So open your hand,

Fingers out straight,

And then sound.

Beautiful tones,

Beautiful.

Now I actually have to admit that in the previous video,

Using the same bowl,

At the time I actually found this bowl very discordant.

It was feeling very uncomfortable.

Now,

That is more about me than it is about the bowl.

So for some particular reason,

My energetics at that time,

For some reason,

Just didn't suit the harmonic range in this particular bowl.

And that's just the nature of working with harmonics and vibrations,

And how sensitive the body can become at different times with different harmonic ranges.

Now,

What I did discover,

And I'm really excited to find this,

The one bowl has a range of harmonics,

And that range can be considerably different depending on which mallet you use.

Okay,

So there is one range of harmonics that is presented with this bigger mallet.

That is one range,

And then we have.

.

.

Now let me share with you what they are.

I used a downloadable app to check the frequencies of the bowls.

And what I've found,

And I'll just refer to my notes,

The small mallet,

The one with the suede covering,

When I use that on the big bowl,

What I'm getting is A sharp.

So that is 468 hertz.

And that happens to be the crown chakra.

So that is the crown chakra,

That particular frequency.

And when I'm using the small mallet,

That is the frequency I'm getting.

Now,

With the same bowl,

When I use the bigger mallet,

I'm now getting 161 hertz.

And that is the notes between E and D sharp.

And what is that?

That's the third eye.

Two different harmonic ranges in the same bowl using different mallets.

Now,

For those who aren't familiar with those terms I've just given you,

The crown chakra,

Which is just above the top of the head,

Is the chakra normally associated with universal consciousness and higher or purer awareness.

And then the third eye,

Which is approximately right about there,

That is known for wisdom,

Intuition,

And inner vision.

So two very,

Very powerful chakra centers.

And I have access or I can use this particular singing bowl on both the crown chakra and also the third eye,

Depending on what I want to stimulate within the client or what I feel intuitively,

Which frequency I want to bring into the body.

But also that depends entirely on which mallet I use.

So it's not as though I have to go out and buy two separate bowls.

I have them both in the one.

And that is really important to test with your own bowls.

That's quite something to be aware of.

And then again,

If you add water into the bowl,

You can get a completely different effect.

And that very much depends on the level of water and also the particular bowl that you may be considering testing and seeing if you can use it on a client.

Put some water in at different depths.

And then with the app,

Let me just check.

I'll just give you the name of the app.

Pano,

P-A-N-O,

Pano Tuner is the name of the app.

And you can record any tonal range with that,

Any harmonic range with that particular app.

Now,

The other interesting thing which I've been using on the tracks that I have on Insight Timer,

There are many meditation tracks there.

I normally start each meditation by using these beautiful brass tinctures.

Now,

Interestingly,

I tested again with the same app and the tinctures are 229 hertz,

And that is the root chakra.

So that is in between D and C sharp.

So we've got,

With two very beautiful,

Simple instruments for harmonic healing,

You've got the one big bowl,

Which is a metal bowl.

We have two frequencies,

Two ranges of harmonics there.

So you've got the top of the head,

The third eye,

And then with the tinctures,

You go all the way down to the root chakra.

So it's quite extraordinary,

The range that you can actually get.

Now,

One of the things I also wanted to share with you is that oftentimes when you're sounding a bowl,

You may tend to want to sound it more regularly rather than let it just naturally vibrate out.

Now,

This again is depending on the client's reaction,

Your own perception of what may be needed in the space for your client.

But generally,

I find,

Having worked with many clients with these bowls,

That once you sound it,

Say just a couple of times,

Just boom,

Let the frequency just ring out.

Because at the end,

When there's no.

.

.

And you'll feel,

You'll actually feel it still resonating,

Vibrating in your hand because your skin is touching,

Whether it's sitting flat on your hand with fingers outstretched or whether you're cupping it like this with the bowl resting on top.

Even though you may not be able to hear the resonance of the bowl ringing,

You'll still be able to feel it coming through your own hand.

So it's very beneficial,

I have found,

For the wellness and the vibration and the clearing energies when you're using one of these bowls,

Regardless if it's a big one or a small one,

Allow it to ring right out until you cannot feel the vibration in your hand anymore.

Now,

You may be thinking,

Well,

What's the point of the silence?

And it does become completely silent.

But never forget that silence does not mean emptiness.

Silence is actually the presence of fullness.

And that fullness means access to universal consciousness,

To universal awareness.

And that is the energy field in that silence.

That's when the real power and the openness of the client has to their own divine nature is in the silence.

So you don't always have to be sounding the bowl and making it sound very energetic and just be mindful and be very sensitive to that.

Now,

The other thing is that you really only have a limited amount of time to work with a client,

Because these bowls are very,

Very powerful.

And I know when I was testing it yesterday,

I was ringing it many times with both different mallets.

And because it's coming in not only vibrationally through the body,

Because it just passes directly into the body wall,

But also it's being absorbed directly into the ears and then down through the central nervous system,

It can start to feel disruptive.

You might actually feel it in yourself when you're using bowls for any length of time.

There is a softness,

Which is the initial stage.

You're very open and freeing and very light.

And then all of a sudden the body starts to react to it because it just becomes too much.

So you need to allow time for the energetic field in the body to actually assimilate the harmonics,

The frequencies that are being introduced to it,

And allow it just to very quietly,

Quietly,

Quietly settle,

Settle,

Settle into absolute silence.

And then it's time to finish.

So those little things I think hopefully for you will be beneficial.

Particularly what I'm excited about,

As I've just explained to you,

I have one bowl and I have two harmonic ranges within the one bowl,

Depending on which mallet.

So when you're buying a hand-beaten bowl,

Or look,

This may also and I used to sell,

Import and sell,

Both the hand-beaten bowls and also machine bowls.

I have a contact in Thailand where I live now,

But he's about a thousand kilometres away.

So he sent me this bowl and I would normally go and pick,

Which I used to do,

Fly from Australia back into Thailand,

Go to Chiang Mai,

And I would sit and I'd play every single bowl to make sure that I was comfortable with that bowl.

So then I could be comfortable sharing it with a client or someone who was at the tourist markets where I used to sell them as well.

So I would recommend always,

Always listen personally to a bowl that you're thinking of buying,

Rather than buying it online.

Because you may get a bowl that simply is energetically not compatible with your own energy field.

Now the other thing I wanted to share with you is the subtleties of the bowl can be such that you really don't have to use them too much.

They're very powerful and they simply think,

Well,

Just one bowl,

What can it do?

It can do a lot.

Now the more you work with clients and the more you work and become familiar with your own bowls,

You will become very sensitive to these.

So you don't have to,

And you can of course,

Go and get a chakra set of bowls.

It sounds beautiful and they are very beautiful bowls,

But if you're working with a client,

And I never ever had a full set of chakra bowls.

I just had two bowls that were deeply meaningful for me and that was all I needed.

I didn't need to go through it.

Because if you're working with a client and you're going to go through the full chakra set in working with them,

For me,

That's going to be an overload.

If it's all going to be in one session,

Well,

There's a lot of energy coming into the body there and that can be discordant and that can feel uncomfortable.

So by all means,

For me,

I would personally,

If you want to buy a set,

Then the first visit you'd be using one bowl.

The next visit,

Then go to the next.

That's probably the best one that I would,

But it's your decision.

That's the way I would use it.

Or what you could do,

You could get the singing bowl that is closest to the frequency of your heart chakra.

Then that particular bowl and that frequency entering that part of the body generally can even out all of the other chakra centers if there's any discordance in any of them.

If the heart chakra is resonating powerfully,

That's kind of the center,

Then it will just dissipate that energy through the rest of the energy channels in the body and will generally bring other energy centers back into alignment.

So it's not as though you're going to have to go out and buy many,

But it's your choice and your decision.

And there are bowls and bowls.

All right,

So really take the time to spend,

Become familiar with the person who's selling them.

Tell them why you're looking for bowls.

You're not necessarily using them for display if you're giving sound bars and you like to have that presentation of many different sound therapy instruments.

If you're working with clients,

Then you'll find you don't need that array of instruments if you're working privately with a client.

And also the same with tuning forks.

You don't need the full set,

For example,

A solfeggio set.

You can get one,

Of course,

But it totally depends on where you're most comfortable working with your clients.

I normally only used a warm tuning fork and heart chakra and third eye.

So I had three tuning forks that I used to use,

And that was all I ever felt that I needed.

And I had some beautiful feedback from clients.

So I think that may be everything that I wanted to share with you,

But the main thing with this and the most exciting thing I discovered yesterday was that how many different resonances you have in one bowl and two separate chakra areas,

The crown and the third eye.

With this particular bowl,

A bowl that is higher in tone,

Higher in tone,

So a smaller bowl,

Will work the other energy centers.

And one more bowl that you may be considering purchasing for people,

Particularly for clients who may have some hesitation in being open and expressive,

Someone who may be a creative writer or an artist,

And they're beginning to have less inspiration.

It could be emotional blockage preventing people from actually being able to feel confident enough to express their feelings.

They feel shy and withdrawn because they're told perhaps that you'll never amount to anything,

Or your voice sounds terrible,

Or you'll never be a singer,

Or your artwork is terrible.

Something that's really impacted them in some sort of trauma that can be around the throat.

So that could be a tuning fork or a singing bowl that can work on those particular frequencies.

It's entirely up to you and entirely what the needs of the client may be.

So that's,

I think,

Pretty much for me.

I have other videos,

As I've mentioned,

And many other tracks on Insight Timer,

Both on free tracks and also on premium.

So I do wish you well,

And I do hope that these tips will be of benefit to you.

Okay,

Thank you.

All the best to you.
