Find a quiet,
Comfortable place where you can fully relax.
Close your eyes and take a slow deep breath in and out.
With each inhale imagine drawing in peace and stillness.
With each exhale release tension,
Obligations and the weight of expectations.
Now visualize yourself stepping into a lush,
Serene garden bathed in golden light.
The air is soft,
The breeze gentle and there is a deep sense of calm in this space.
This is a garden of restoration,
A place where rest is honoured and welcomed.
As you walk you notice a small section of the garden where the soil looks dry and overworked,
As if it has never been given time to recover.
This space represents your relationship with rest,
The parts of you that have been neglected and the name of productivity,
Obligation or fear of stillness.
In the middle of this overworked patch of earth you see a large weed with tangled roots.
This weed represents the guilt you feel when you slow down,
The belief that you must always be doing something to be worthy.
Observe the weed,
Is it heavy,
Dry or tangled deep in the soil?
Has it been growing for a long time?
Place your hands on the weed and listen to what it whispers to you.
Perhaps it says,
I don't have time to rest,
If I stop I'll fall behind,
Rest is lazy,
I should be doing more.
Recognize that these beliefs were planted long ago,
By society,
Family or past experiences but they do not serve you anymore.
Say to the weed,
I see you,
I understand where you come from,
But I do not need you anymore.
Take a deep breath in and as you exhale begin pulling the weed from the earth,
Feel its resistance,
Its grip on your mind and body,
But you are stronger.
With each breath it loosens until finally you remove it completely.
The moment the weed is gone a sense of relief washes over you,
You have made space for something new,
You have reclaimed your right to rest.
Now in the empty space where the weed once was,
Dig a small hole in the earth,
This space is ready for renewal.
In your hands you hold a seed,
Small,
Luminous,
Full of potential.
This seed carries the energy of rest,
Ease and the deep understanding that slowing down allows you to bloom even more fully.
Whisper to the seed,
Rest is productive,
I deserve to recharge just as the earth does.
When I rest I allow new energy,
Ideas and joy to flow into my life.
Place the seed into the soil,
Covering it gently with your hands,
Imagine warm golden light pouring over it,
Nourishing it with acceptance and peace.
See its roots spreading deep,
Anchoring you in a new reality,
One where rest is not something to feel guilty about,
But a sacred part of your natural rhythm.
Now stand in your garden and notice the sift,
The overworked soil is no longer depleted,
It is rich,
Soft and fertile,
It has space to breathe,
You see a small plant beginning to grow where you planted the seed.
This is your new relationship with rest.
It will flourish as you continue to nurture it with permission,
Kindness and trust.
Take a moment to lie down in the soft grass of your garden,
Feel the warmth of the earth beneath you,
Holding you.
There is nothing you need to do right now,
Just be,
Just breathe.
Place a hand over your heart and affirm.
I release the guilt of rest.
I am allowed to pause and replenish.
Rest makes me stronger,
Not weaker.
Slowly bring your awareness back to your breath.
Observe the sensations in your body and the feelings that may be present right now.
Wiggle your fingers and toes,
Take a deep breath in and as you exhale,
Open your eyes,
Feeling lighter,
Deeply at peace and fully restored.
