Chapter 12 Enro lifted his head slightly,
Pulling just far back enough that he could see Dahlia's eyes as they opened.
Whoa,
He said out loud.
They both grinned.
Now what,
He asked,
Realizing that the sun was low on the horizon and they would need to head back before it got dark.
I'd like to hear about you,
Dahlia said,
As they both turned to begin the walk back to where they had started.
Oh,
Wow,
Startled by the sunlight dancing across the water.
They both drank in the beauty of the view in front of them.
While the sun had not yet touched the sea off in the distance,
It was close enough to create a mesmerizing reflection across the water.
Light was dancing and reflecting in the most magical ways in front of them,
Almost too brilliant to look at directly.
Turning sideways to look at each other,
They smiled,
Feeling the blessing showering over them in this moment following their commitment.
Squeezing Dahlia's hand a little tighter in his,
Enro said,
I am happy to share my story.
As we walk,
Let's go just a little bit faster so we can make it back before it's too dark to see our way.
And with that,
Enro opened up the book of his life to this woman who in just a few hours had turned his world on its axis.
Born 30 years ago in a small village south of Shanghai,
Enro was the long-awaited miracle child to a couple in their 30s who had struggled with infertility for most of their marriage.
When they found out they were pregnant with a child,
Enro's mother cautiously monitored her pregnancy for the entire nine months.
By the time she birthed her little baby boy,
The frequency of overprotection based on fear of loss was firmly set for their journey together.
Enro grew up being held and cared for by a mother whose whole world revolved around his existence.
The shift created in their family dynamic when their baby arrived put Enro's father firmly in second place behind his new son.
While he loved his baby,
Enro's father was also resentful of the time and attention he no longer received from his wife.
Relegated to the role of provider,
He went to work and came home each day,
Knowing that the evenings and weekends would center fully around the activities created for Enro's learning and play.
Enro's mother made it her mission to give her son the best of everything,
From clothes to food to experiences,
All of which were filtered through a layer of fear of what might go wrong that could bring harm to her son.
His childhood was busy with lots of books and games and an early introduction to technology.
Enro's uncle,
His mother's younger brother who lived in Shanghai,
Was their connection to the larger world outside of their village.
Each year when he came to visit,
He would bring another new gadget and spend his time teaching Enro and his mother how to play with technology.
These were Enro's favorite times when he would sit with his uncle and listen to the stories he shared of life in the big city with all of the color,
Movement,
And potential.
Enro's education was typical for his community's standards,
Starting at the small school in the village center when he was eight years old with nine other children.
He would ride the bike his uncle brought to him,
Traveling the dirt roads for 10 minutes with a small backpack on his shoulder.
The students met each day for five hours with one teacher who had studied in the city.
She did her best to keep all of them focused and following their assigned readings and lessons,
But it was the playtime during their lunch break that Enro enjoyed the most.
He loved his friends,
From the two who were close to his age all the way up to the oldest who was 15.
In the afternoons when he got home,
His mother would read with him for the next two hours until dinnertime,
Different books every time.
She continued the English lessons he had started through the CDs his uncle brought,
And so they were both learning English together.
By the time he was 18 and ready to choose his next step in life,
Enro could comfortably communicate in both Mandarin and English with a solid literature comprehension and competent technical grasp of computer technology.
That foundation served him well when he arrived in Shanghai to begin studying at the university near his uncle's apartment.
Working 30 hours a week at a local deli in the kitchen,
Enro had committed to a longer college path that he could afford to pay fully himself.
His mornings were spending classes,
His afternoons at the deli,
And his evenings studying.
On the weekends,
He would hang out with the new friends he was meeting in his neighborhood and in class.
The transition to the big city and this new vibrant fast-paced life left Enro unaware of the impact his move to the city had on his mother.
When he returned to visit after three months,
He was shocked to see how much she appeared to have aged.
Only 50 years old,
She looked much older.
His father had long ago stopped feeling connected to his wife and Enro's absence had not opened up a new love within him.
The distance and sadness between his parents hurt Enro's heart as he felt it in a new way after not being around them for the short period of time.
Guilt weighed heavily even as he shared his excitement and gratitude for the way he was living his life differently.
Promising to call more often,
Enro returned to the city feeling the complexity and contrast that awareness brings as we move from childhood into adulthood.
Over the next few years,
Enro bounced back and forth between these two realities.
The new city life and freedom he was thriving in as his mind opened up in his studies,
And the constriction and loneliness that he felt every time he returned to the home where he grew up.
It was this conflict,
The tension between the two realities,
That first guided Enro into the world of energy healing.
Feeling helpless in how to make his mother happy,
And also knowing it was not his responsibility to do so,
He began searching for practices and tools that could bring her inspiration and fresh meaning to her existence.
His first experience was with a psychic,
An old lady in her 70s recommended by a friend.
Looking at his palm and then studying his face for a few minutes,
She quietly announced that everything happening to him was with purpose,
That he had chosen his mother and she had chosen him.
They had completed the first phase of their agreement,
And the second one was to bring him into his own healing powers.
She told Enro that he would heal many people in a way that had not yet been discovered by others or by himself,
And that supporting his mother in finding her way would show Enro his way.
Leaving the session more confused than when he arrived,
Enro spent the next six months in his free time researching,
Reading books,
Watching videos,
And talking to anyone who was interested in listening about what he was discovering.
Taking the most powerful pieces of wisdom to his mother in their phone conversation,
Encouraging her to learn along with him.
Within one year,
Enro's mother had settled into a daily meditation practice,
Combining different modalities into a way that worked beautifully for her.
The peacefulness and curiosity about the patterns in her life had opened his mother up to a gentle inquiry into the meaning of her life,
Which flowed directly into a healing of her relationship with her husband.
She and Enro shared ahas and connections via email and text often throughout the week,
Both expanding as they followed their nuggets of guidance.
Enro soaked up everything he was learning,
Aligning with the timing of the world opening up rapidly to new healing modalities,
Alternative ways to bring the mind,
The body,
And the soul into harmony.
Astrology,
Reiki,
Energy reading,
Ayurveda,
Crystals,
Numerology,
As quickly as he was introduced to a new concept,
He was absorbed in studying and understanding it.
By the time of his Saturn return,
Enro had a bachelor's degree in computer science and a powerful integration of energy healing skills.
The expansion of technology allowed him to communicate with his parents on a regular basis via video,
Deepening their relationship even as he had moved from Shanghai to Beijing.
When he announced his acceptance of the job offer in Australia,
Their communication and love was so steady and established that Enro only felt their pride and encouragement for him to begin his next adventure.
Enro's arrival in Brisbane was seamless as he landed in a community of healers already proven to dramatically improve the overall health of their patients.
His assignment was to streamline the collaboratives intake process via their website in order to allow for more efficiency of the practitioner's time.
Bringing his love for technology into an environment focused on healing was the dream job that Enro had been seeking and manifesting in his daily meditation practice for the year before it arrived.
Now in this moment,
Taking in the glory of the sunset on the beach in Bali as he held Dalia's hand,
Enro spoke the mantra out loud that he had been repeating for the past 11 months.
Looking at her as he said the words,
I am joyfully celebrating the deep connection I co-create with my beloved,
The one I have known through all time and space,
Who waited for me to find her.
He heard and saw Dalia's quick inhale as she turned in surprise to look at him.
What?
She whispered.
Enro smiled,
Took her other hand in his and facing her as the sun made its way into the ocean,
He said,
I have been calling to you every day since I arrived in Brisbane,
Knowing you were close and not knowing how to find you,
And here you are.
He saw the tears forming in her eyes and then running down her cheeks as she simply stared at him.
And once again,
Time was suspended as they stood across from each other on a beach in Bali on the day before New Year's Eve.
