Tucker and Leo had to go to the vets.

Leo was not happy.

Tucker was very excited.

Oh,

It's been so long,

Leo.

So long since I've been in Daddy's car.

I love Daddy's car.

I like to put my head out of the window and I like to slobber all over his seats and I like to turn around and run around and I like to wobble all over when he goes around corners too fast.

All of it,

Every single muscle is so much fun,

Leo.

Leo felt completely opposite.

Leo hated car rides.

He hated going in the car.

He didn't like getting up into the car.

He didn't like getting out of the car.

He didn't like the actual ride.

He didn't like the windows.

They scared him in case he got his head stuck in one.

He did not like any of it at all.

Not one single part.

And he didn't even know that they were going to the vets.

They thought they were just going in the car.

But then,

Leo is pretty smart and how often do they go in the car?

And his mum and dad know that he doesn't like the car,

So why would they take him in the car if they didn't need to go anywhere other than the vets?

Leo did not like the vets.

There were too many smells,

Too many dogs,

Too many things to make him itch and scratch,

Too many loud noises,

Too many strange people,

Too many people walking past with other animals,

Stressing him out because Tucker could eat them at any moment.

Just too much going on.

The car ride was absolutely horrific,

If you ask Leo.

Tucker,

On the other hand,

Acted like he'd just been to Six Flags or something.

He'd had the best ride of his life.

Like he'd been on a roller coaster of fun and joy and happiness,

All in the same ride.

It was so funny how they were completely different dogs.

Tucker's mouth and his tongue was a little bit dry because he'd been sticking it out the window and everything had stuck and he was talking a bit funny at first and then he said,

Oh Leo,

Leo,

And then his big giant tongue eventually unstuck from the top of his mouth.

They got their fancy leads on.

They had to have fancy leads because Tucker was like a tank and he pulled everywhere.

So if you didn't have one of these fancy leads that Tucker did not like,

Then he would pull and that's why he didn't like it.

Because he liked to pull.

He loved to pull everybody everywhere.

He liked to go at full speed.

The fancy leads were made so that they went around their nozzle and then they kind of tied in a weird place around the neck.

Every time they pulled,

It pulled on the nozzle as if to turn the head to the left or the right and they couldn't go forward.

Tucker was not impressed.

I don't understand why Dad has to put these horrible,

Horrible,

Horrible,

Horrible leads on us.

It's like torture.

I just want to go running in the fields with the flowers and the butterflies and the bees.

I want to sing.

I want to dance.

I want to chase puppies.

I want to eat cats.

I want to do what I want to do,

Leo and this is just horrible.

It's like having a straight jacket on.

Does Daddy think that we're absolutely crazy or something?

Does he think I'm crazy?

I hope not.

I hope not.

Leo didn't mind the fancy leads because he didn't pull so much on walks.

So he didn't get his head pulled to the side.

He was pulling back,

Actually.

He didn't want to go into the vets.

There was a dog park right next to the vets and there was loads of dogs in there and Tucker was going absolutely berserk already.

He wasn't even in the dog park and he was going crazy.

Let me at him.

Oh,

I can smell him.

I can smell him.

I can lick him.

He was sticking his tongue out trying to lick the air as if he could lick the dogs.

Growling at everyone here and there and everywhere and all the dogs in the dog park looked so friendly and happy playing together.

It was such a shame,

Leo thought.

It was just a shame that Tucker was an aggressive lover.

He loved on you so much that sometimes he actually got a little bit aggressive and wasn't very nice.

But yes,

That was Tucker,

Unfortunately.

Leo thought it would have been so nice to be able to visit the dog park but then,

Yeah,

Not.

Not really because Leo doesn't like the dog park.

Mum went into the vets.

She told the vets that Tucker wasn't very good with other dogs and we would have to wait outside until there was no dogs in the actual waiting area in the vets.

One of the ladies came out and let Tucker and Leo know it was safe to come in and go to their room.

Leo had to get weighed.

He'd not been weighed for a long time.

He slipped and slided on the weighing scale because it was just made of like shiny metal,

Which is very silly really.

It reminded him of the staircase,

The landing,

The bedrooms,

Everything wooden and shiny and slippy upstairs.

Leo's eyes got really big as he was doing the padona splits all over and then he eventually sat down shaking.

Tucker didn't need to get weighed.

Tucker had been there not too long ago for a checkup.

They went inside the quiet room and waited for the vet.

When he came in he was an older gentleman.

He checked Tucker.

Tucker looked good.

He checked on Leo.

Leo had got a few bumps here and there but there weren't anything to worry about because they'd had them a long time.

They were probably just fatty lumps or something.

Tucker started laughing.

Fatty lumps?

You got lumps and bumps.

You're like a mashed potato or like a stew and dumpling.

You're all lumpy some places Leo.

I'm not lumpy.

Then the vet said to Leo,

I think we'll take you first.

Leo looked at Tucker and said,

Who is he taking me?

Tucker said,

I don't know Leo.

I don't know.

Leo walked with the vet very apprehensively.

He got absolutely no clue where he was going and why he was going and what he was going for.

Mum had not said anything.

Dad had not said anything.

He didn't know whether he was gonna get washed.

He didn't know whether he was gonna get blood drawn.

He didn't know whether he was gonna get jabbed.

His teeth cleaned.

He got absolutely no clue.

What if mum and dad didn't want him anymore and they were gonna leave him at the vets and then the vet would sell him and then he would have to go work on a farm and be around a bunch of animals he didn't like.

All of his worst nightmares were coming into his mind.

What if,

What if he had to run away and he got on a bus and the bus took him to the wrong place and the bus took him to a tropical island and he never saw anyone ever again.

What if he had to go and go back there and they poked something up his bum like a temperature thing.

Leo was very very scared.

They took him into a small room.

They put him into a harness and he couldn't move his head round very much and at that moment he was like that's it I'm done for this is the end of me.

He was shaking all over and then this nice lady came into the room and gave him a peanut butter treat and started cutting his toenails.

That was terrible.

It was absolutely awful but she was very quick and very good and she didn't hurt him one single little bit.

It was just very very scary and she kept repeatedly giving him peanut butter treats over and over and over again which he was very happy about.

And then he was done.

Very quick.

Less than five minutes.

When he started to walk back with the vet to the room where Tucker and his mum and dad were his nails weren't clippy clopping on the floor anymore.

He was both happy and quite remorseful about it at the same time.

He liked his clippy cloppies and but also it felt really good to be able to walk and not have long long toenails scraping on the floor,

Clippy clapping and making lots of noise and also bending his toes a bit weird because they were so long.

He felt like a new man.

When they opened the door he ran into the room and Leo showed Tucker his nails.

Look Tucker look what they did.

Tucker said oh lovely a pedi.

I haven't had a pedicure in a long long time.

Oh I'm so excited.

I wonder if they'll paint them.

I like them painted.

Ellie painted them one time and they were bright pink and purple and they look so fancy.

I really liked it.

I'm gonna ask them Leo I'm gonna say could you paint my nails maybe give me a French polish.

Something like that that'd be really fancy wouldn't it.

Tucker had no worries in the world about getting a pedicure.

He was bouncing practically.

The vet took him out of the room took him to the other room where the nice lady was with the peanut butter treats.

Oh peanut butter is one of my favorites said Tucker.

He licked her a lot and she kept feeding him peanut butter cookies.

Got his nails done he felt very pampered.

When she got him down off the table he pranced around like he was Prince Tucker.

Just like Leo there was no clippy cloppy sounds anymore.

Tucker said that's a bit of a shame that is.

I like my clippy cloppies they make lots of nice noises especially if you're dancing.

It sounds like you're tap dancing.

He was talking away to the vet but the vet didn't say anything.

Don't think the vet understood him.

He probably thought that Tucker was just one of those dogs that make a lot of noise.

When they got back to the room Tucker and Leo's mom went up to the front desk and paid the bill and then she made sure no one else was around and they brought out Tucker and Leo to go back to the car.

Ooh back to the car thought Leo.

Ooh back to the car said Tucker.

The dad helped them to get up into the car because it was quite high off the ground.

He picked them both up and put them on the back seat.

Mum gave him one of their chewy bones with peanut butter in to go home with but they were both a little bit too active.

Leo because he was nervous and Tucker because he couldn't stop running from one window to the other window to the other window to the other window.

There was just far too much to see,

Far too many smells,

Far too much fun to be had.

When they got home dad helped them down out of the car.

They both peed a lot on the front garden as if they've been gone on a vacation or something for 10,

000 years just to remind all the dogs on the street that they live there.

Watch it this is my garden.

And then they went in the house.

They drank a lot of water both of them.

Tucker drank his out of the toilet.

He couldn't wait for Leo to move away from the dog bowl.

Something about excitement and stress can make you very very very thirsty when you're a dog.

And then that was it.

Leo was done for the day.

Don't touch me,

Don't mess with me,

Don't play with me,

Just leave me alone,

Leave me in peace.

I need my space is basically what Leo said to everyone.

Tucker was totally fine but he did eventually join him for a very nice nap.

He pushed Leo out of the way a little bit and snuck on to the big comfortable dog bed that they shared.

Turned around about four or five times and then sat down.

Oh what a day Leo,

What a day.

Very adventurous.

I had thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Look at my fancy nails.

Unfortunately the lady with the peanut butter treats did not understand about me asking for pink nails at all.

I was like pink please pink and she was like yes you're a lovely puppy and I was like no pink and she was like yes I'm almost done and I was like I think this lady's got something wrong between her heads.

It's not a brain it's a sponge.

Yes that's what I thought Leo but yeah anyway.

Leo said it was a horrible day horrible horrible day.

The peanut butter cookies were okay though.

Tucker said yes they were they were delicious.

I kept licking her on a purpose and she just kept getting me over and over again and I was like this girl she's such a softy she's such a softy.

They eventually fell fast asleep.
