They were going to go and buy a pie.

Cherry had been craving pumpkin pie even though it wasn't that close to Halloween yet.
She was craving it.
She was craving all the things that are pumpkin-y.
You know,
Like when you get your pumpkin spice coffee scent.
Pumpkin flavoured doughnuts,
Pumpkin pie,
Pumpkin.

You name it.
It was.
Almost September.
It was getting there.
Things were starting to turn up in the stars.
With pumpkin flavors.
Pumpkin spiced everything.
BOTS Cherry knew for a fact that this particular bakery had pumpkin pie.
OMG!

The taste of it melting in my mouth!
Crust all buttery.
And then the pumpkin with that soft,
Pudding-y texture and and and and and the flavours OMG!

This bakery was like oomph.
Good 10 minute walk.
From the cat's house.
But it was worth it.
They all agreed it was worth it because they could all do with a piece of pumpkin pie.
They were walking past a particular place where it's a street where there's an alley down the side.
It's called Bubblegum Alley.
Bubblegum Alley is where.
Disgusting people stick their gum on the wall.
But it's kind of famous.
And It's famous because There's so much bubblegum down that alley.
Can you imagine thousands and thousands and thousands of people sticking the gum on the wall?
Too gross.
But still fun.
Cherry said.

" Then she heard her.
And Cherry stopped walking.

Everybody went really quiet and they stood.

The kids and the cats started to go down Bubblegum Alley.
To see if they could find the source of the meowy.
Now down Bubblegum Alley wasn't that clean.
They were garbage bins,
And there were different things down there.

Recycled bins.
Yeah,
It wasn't very nice and it spilt.
Particularly strongly.
It's spelt like a mixture of Dirty alleyways.
Bubblegum.
Which wasn't great.
Joe said,
This place stinks.
Heidi said,
Yeah,
You're right,
It does.
And the further they got down the alley,
The smellier it got.
Until they heard it very loud.

It's gotta be right here somewhere.
It was like playing that game.
Where they go hotter,

Fiery art when you get so close and then they go no cold oh no getting colder colder colder it was like that game They were trying to find the source of the meow and they were getting hotter and hotter and hotter.
Kerry said.
I just saw something move behind that dustbin.
Everybody stood still.

Little cat sounded like it was hurt or something.

Not thinking,
Ran up to the dustbin.
Pulled it out of the way so that she could see what was behind it.
And behind it.
This tiny tiny little black kitten with the pinkest nose the bluest eyes all on its own.
It said,
As if its meower had broken.
Oh my gosh!
She went down to pick up the kitten.
You silly kitten,
What are you doing out here all on your own?
It's sad.
Cherry said,
Oh,
I recognize that sound.
I recognize that sound.
That's when you've been meowing or meowing or whatever you've been doing for way too long.
And that poor little kitten,
Nobody heard it.
Freya said,
Oh my,
This is horrible.
Fair was stroking between the kitten's ears,
And its little ears were all dirty and crusty,
Its body was full of dirt and crusty yucky stuff,
It even had gum stuck on its tail.
Cherry said,
This alley should be illegal.
Poor little mite.
Christina said,
Oh,
Maybe we should just abort our mission to go and get a pumpkin pie.
We'll do it another time.
Maybe we should take the kitten back to your house,
Cherry,
And wash it and feed it.
Oh,

I don't care about pumpkin pie.
This silly little cat,
That's what matters.
The silly little cat by now was all curled up.
In a ball.
In Carrie's hand.
And Carrie was,

She kept saying,

The little kitten was acting as if it had already been saved.
It felt safe.
And it was nice and warm in Kerry's hands.
The little kitten closed its eyes.
Kristen said,
Wait,
Wait.
There might be more kittens.
They might have been left here.
Heidi said,
That's a really good point.
Let's look everywhere before we leave.
They looked behind all the garbage bins.
They looked behind all the big recycling bins.
Trashy bag area.
They looked everywhere.
No kittens.
Only the one little kitten.
The little kitten was just.

So tired it wasn't even paying attention.
Cherry tickled inside of its ears and under its chin and it wasn't responding at all.
Cherry said,
I think it's really hungry.
We're going to hurry up really,
Really fast.
Hurry up.
Let's go home and feed it.
That's what they did.
They ran as fast as they could back to Heidi,
Cherry and Vea's house.
Cherry had the insight to mush up some of the cat food.
And make it more like a paste.
She mixed it with some milk.
Then put a tiny bit on a bowl.
And put the kitten down on the ground.
The kitten looked all crunchy and slow and sleepy.
But it smelt the food.
Went over to the food and started to lick it with its tongue.
And Heidi,
And Cherry,
And Vea,
And Carrie,
And Christina,
And Kristen all cheered.
Ha!
Jumped.
As if someone had just thrown a big,
Giant cucumber in front of it,
You know,
And cats jump off all fours,
Like.

And Vea said,
Oh,
Sorry,
Kitten.
Sorry,
We were just happy that you were eating.
Please carry on.

The kitten decided it wasn't dangerous and then carried on eating.
Your whole little mind.
It ate quite a lot of the food,
And then.

Everyone could tell that it was done.
It had had enough.
Heidi said,
How about we wash you?
How about we see what's underneath all of this dirt and see if we can get some of that gum off?
And just went.
As if to say.
They all went into the bathroom.
Figuring that the kitten was so small they could just do it in the bathroom sink.
They make water in the sink,
Nice and warm,
The perfect temperature.
And they put bubbles in there and then they gently lowered the kitten in.
At first the kitten scratched and kicked.
As if to say,
What on earth is this?
But then it settled.
The water must have felt nice because it kept purring.
And closing its eyes and everybody in unison kept going forward.
Aw.
Aw.
Oh,
Little kitten.
Aww.
Cherry said.
I'd like to call this kitten something very cool.
Heidi said,
No,
No,
We don't call this cat anything.
We don't call it anything.
Because then that means we're attaching to it emotionally.
And we cannot attach to it emotionally.
No,

We can't.
We have to Do the best for the kitten and then maybe take the kitten to the pound so that it can find some loving parents.
Cherry said.

This kitten can stay with us!

The little cat opened its eyes.
It smiled at Cherry.

Kristen said,
Is Silly Cat a boy or a girl?

Heidi picked up the kitten.
And turned it over to check.
This here kitten.

Oh i've always wanted a brother i've always wanted a brother they said i would like a brother too oh i hope mom and dad let us keep keep silly cat oh my gosh this is so exciting so exciting Kristen.

There's no time better than now.
And also,
We need some help with that gum on his tail.

" Cherry instantly shouted.

Mom came running into the bathroom.

Kristen said.

We found this little kitten all by itself down an alley,
Starving.
It was so dirty and it's got gum on its tail.
It was down Gum Alley.
It's got gum on its tail and it doesn't have a home.
And Kristen pulled her saddest face.
And then,
As if everybody on cue did exactly what they needed to do,
They all started to pull their big sad eyes.
Christina and Carrie.
Zaya and Heidi and Cherry all looked at mom like.

Cherry said,
It's probably got fleas.
Have you got fleas,
Silly cat?

As if to say,

Heidi said,
Let's check.
They rummage through all of the cat's fur.

OMG said Cherry good because we'd all be in for it if you got fleas because if you got fleas I've got fleas and if I've got fleas Heidi's got fleas and if Heidi's got fleas Faye has definitely got fleas Faye said I definitely don't want fleas no way thank you very much silly cat you're so cute but no please no fleas the cat.

Closed its eyes and started to purr.
By now it was wrapped up in a little towel.
All warm and snuggly and it looked the cutest.
Cutest little cat in the entire world.
Silly cat.
I've called it silly cat mum.
Silly cat.

The cat's mom took in a big,

She put her hands on her hips and everyone thought,

And then she looked down at everybody and she said,

Cheers and applause and All of it was happening in that tiny little bathroom.
The kids were jumping up and down so excited.
The cat woke up and was meowing frantically as if to say something was killing it.
Then they all stopped and laughed and said,
It's okay,
Silly cat.
We're just happy.
Silly Cat said.
That's real.
Kids and the cats played.
For a long time with Silly Cat.
Well,
When I say played,
They kind of just like laid and watched it most of the time because it slept a lot,
Because it was a kitten and kittens sleep a lot.
But,
My goodness.
His big blue eyes and his black shiny fur now that he was all clean his tiny tiny little pink nose and his tiny little paws and the pads on his paws were bright pink they looked like jelly beans oh and he was just the cutest little kitten in the entire world Cherry said.
I think I love him already.
Vaya said,
I know,
Me too.
Heidi said.
Oh,
I think he's going to be so smart.
I think he's going to like books.
Cherry said,
OMG,
Heidi.
Give him a break.

He's gonna go skateboarding with me.
