Merry meet,

Welcome to Magical Minutes,

A series of short talks on topics of interest to Wiccans,

Pagans,

And Witches.

Whether you are new to the craft,

An experienced practitioner,

Or simply curious about nature-based spiritualities,

All are welcome and honored here.

Let's spend a few Magical Minutes together.

In this episode,

We'll be taking a look at rare and unique moons.

Lunar cycles are quite predictable,

Yet they still offer a few surprises now and then.

Here are a few of them.

We've all heard the expression,

Once in a blue moon.

There are actually two types of blue moons.

A seasonal blue moon occurs when there is a third full moon in a season with four full moons.

This happens every two to three years.

A blue moon,

As it is commonly known,

Occurs whenever there are two full moons in the same calendar month,

Which is known as a monthly blue moon.

This happens approximately every thirty-three months.

Because of the calendar,

February can never have a monthly blue moon,

And,

While we're on the subject of February,

When there is a full moon at the very end of January,

There is no full moon at all in the month of February.

This happens about every nineteen years.

Switching colors,

There are also black moons.

A monthly black moon is when there is a second new moon in a calendar month,

And this occurs approximately every twenty-nine months.

A seasonal black moon is the third new moon within a season,

Similar to the seasonal blue moon.

A supermoon can be either a full or new moon when it occurs near the moon's closest approach to Earth.

Because of this,

The moon will appear larger,

Thus the name.

Supermoons occur about three to four times each year.

When most people think of Halloween,

They picture a full moon going right along with it.

This makes for great artwork,

But it is truly a rare happening.

With the month of October having thirty-one days,

And a lunar cycle being twenty-nine point five days,

There is only a full moon on Halloween,

Or Samhain,

Every eighteen to nineteen years.

The last time this occurred was in 2020,

And it won't happen again until 2039.

But when there is a full moon on Halloween,

It will be the second full moon of the month,

Making it a blue moon.

Thank you for joining me for this episode of Magical Minutes.

May you walk in love and light,

And may all your days be filled with magic.

Blessed Be.
