My name is Matt DeStefano and I would like to say a very important prayer with you today.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart as we know it began about the year 1672.
On repeated occasions,
Jesus appeared to St.
Margaret Mary a la Coque,
A visitation nun in France,
And during these apparitions he explained to her the devotion to his Sacred Heart as he wanted people to practice it.
St.
Margaret Mary was a cloistered nun and so to help her carry out this mission entrusted to her,
Our Lord brought St.
Claude LaCambrière,
A Jesuit priest,
To her to be her spiritual director.
He was the first to believe in the revelations of the Sacred Heart to St.
Margaret Mary.
Thanks to his support,
Her superior also believed.
Widespread propagation of the devotion to the Sacred Heart in the Universal Church began from that time.
The prayer I'm about to recite is from the Novena of Confidence,
Also sometimes known as the Miracle Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
I say this prayer every night to the heart of Jesus before bedtime.
In the name of the Father,
And of the Son,
And of the Holy Spirit,
O most sacred heart of Jesus,
I have asked you for many favors,
But I plead now for this one.
Take this prayer and place it into your open,
Broken heart,
And when the Eternal Father looks upon it,
Covered with the cloak of your most precious blood,
He will not refuse it.
This is not my prayer,
But yours.
O sacred heart of Jesus,
I place all my trust in thee.
Glory be to the Father,
And to the Son,
And to the Holy Spirit,
As it was in the beginning,
Is now and ever shall be,
World without end.
