I'm Gene Hutchins.
Thank you for joining me today.
Today I want to share a morning inventory and planner.
What I found is that every day is better and more productive just by taking a bit of time in the mornings to create a focus on some things to ensure my enjoyment during the day that I'm facing.
Today we're going to do a personal inventory and we're going to start making a plan for today and for our tomorrows.
We're going to do it in our mind and we're going to make a few notes on paper.
So get a piece of paper,
Something to write with,
And set aside a few moments for yourself,
Away from everyone and everything except your introspective thought and the way to remember thoughts and ideas that arise by making some quick notes on the paper.
Before starting this most important part of the day,
The planning stage for self-development,
It's always best to settle in by taking a few deep breaths,
Inhaling for your favorite count,
Holding for a few seconds,
And then exhaling long and slow until you force most of the air from your body.
Then repeat this cycle for a minute or so before settling into your normal breathing pattern.
Focusing on this pattern or any type of conscious breathing pattern will invigorate the brain and the body for the important work which we're going to start now.
This is your personal inventory.
Sure,
We want to start with skills.
Briefly,
Those things that you're already an expert in the field,
Those things that you know like the back of your hand,
Those things that you could teach to others of your perfected method to become an expert,
Just as you are now in that specific area.
It can be work-related or it can be related to any phase of accomplishment of something that you've invested time,
Energy,
And focused action towards achievement.
It could be something you developed to be used to make money,
Or it could be something you did for fun,
As in creativity through artistic expression,
As in becoming proficient or excellent in an activity,
A sport,
In your specific area of knowledge.
I want you to think about these specific skills that you have developed and enjoyed as a part of whatever you may have been doing at the time,
The parts that interested you,
The ones that you could shift and combine with your passion and your goals.
I'm talking about those same things that earned your promotion or gave you the background to get your job,
Maybe things that enabled you to make the team,
To become a player at any area of life that you may have encountered.
These are some skills that you've already developed and you learned and you grew with these skills all through your life.
These are the things that helped you to win,
To win that championship within yourself because you became the best that you could be at whatever.
So now,
In our mind and on our paper,
We have a few words or phrases of skills that we've developed over time in whatever area that were used to accomplish something,
Anything for yourself.
It's the things that you'd love to do that I'm the most interested in.
We're talking about the old saying of do what you love and love what you do.
That's your passion.
That's your strength.
That's what you'll do the best in rapid advancement toward feeling good about yourself from the inside,
From the creation that you initiated and followed through with action and made it happen.
The next step is to think about those things that really turn you on,
The ones that fire you up,
That make you say,
I really want to spend a big part of my time doing this.
Those things that make you say,
I would like to become really good at doing this because it makes me feel good and especially because it makes me feel good about myself.
Pay attention to these intuitive connections,
To the feelings of these desires.
Many times these feelings are a calling and point the way towards fulfillment and purpose.
Keeping in mind that every day comes anew,
Be sure to select a good number of things that you dream of and love to do,
Things that you know that you can focus on some short-term energy and get something done.
We're planning.
We're planning to accomplish something today.
By this time on our paper,
We should be building a list of skills and strengths.
We should be building a list of our desires and wishes.
And now we want to list for some goals as a direction to focus our power.
And it always ties back to do what you love and love what you do.
In this area of your paper,
Start adding incremental goals.
Start to plan the placement of your stepping stones to get you from where you are now to where you want to be.
Think of some simple short-term wishes for yourself.
Then think of some long-range goals that would empower you for your future years.
And pick a few mid-range accomplishments that you really want to achieve.
Now that we have all of these skills noted on our page and now that we have all of these desires,
Our true passions noted,
And we have a section of goals from short to long,
We have everything we need to start building a better tomorrow for ourselves.
It's all on one page.
Now if you glance at your plan every morning,
Whenever morning is for you,
Before you get too involved with your day,
If you set a few intentions and stick with them by taking some action,
Every day can be a step in your chosen direction.
Some days may be big steps.
Most days will be baby steps.
But steps are steps,
So keep it moving.
When you take inventory by checking your list,
You may choose the first thing you see or the things that your eyes are drawn to,
Or you can play your game any way you choose.
This is your game of life.
You make the rules.
You can make copies or sticky notes.
You can create vision boards and calendars.
You can use scissors and cut the paper.
Cut out these ideas into little pieces of paper.
You can tear them by hand.
You can put them in a box and shake them up.
You can put them in a bag or a pocket,
Or you can turn them upside down on the table as in playing cards.
Just play the game every day,
Your game.
And using your inner self,
That inner child inside of you that learned everything,
Pick a few notes that you've listed from whatever method you've chosen to remind yourself of yourself.
As you look at the first note,
You'll see something that you want to do or something that you're good at doing.
Now,
Choose another note.
Maybe you choose another desire or another one of your skills.
Pick enough notes until you feel the calling to combine and create a plan of how you may focus a bit of thought and effort towards that step-by-step process of achievement,
Of what you truly desire to do.
And think about how applying these skills to your desire may open new doors for exploration,
For application of the skill in an entirely new direction.
You may only need a few notes for today,
Or you may need to discard and pick a whole new hand,
A hand that you'll choose to play today.
Something that you love,
Something that you know,
Combined to create something today,
Building towards something that you want in your life.
Just let your intuition lead you towards something that you'll focus on today and your little bits of time that you take to build your bridge and your quest to become better at something you want to do with your time and with your energy and a little burst of thought and planning of learning and growing,
Always taking action steps forward to something that sparks your interest,
Something that you have an interest to become more involved in,
Something that will be fun and make you feel good about yourself.
These can be and most likely should be completely private and personal to you.
Invest this energy and effort in yourself today,
Then analyze your growth,
Your gains towards your goal,
Whether or not you really enjoyed the effort that you put forth today.
Consider whether you want to continue this path.
Maybe you decide that you thought you wanted it,
But now that you've dug a little deeper,
You may decide that this is not really for you,
And that's okay.
You've just eliminated something that maybe you've been wasting some time thinking about.
On the other hand,
You may have discovered something that you're completely wild about,
Something that lit your fire.
This exercise is designed to help find some clarity of direction towards happiness and self-development.
Self-development makes you valuable,
Valuable to yourself and valuable to others.
It makes you valuable to the world because you have something to offer,
Something that you've become good at doing,
Something that you can share,
Something you can teach,
Something that makes you feel really good about yourself,
Something that makes you get up in the morning and want to get busy doing whatever may be your best purpose for the day and for the steps toward your tomorrow.
Next,
We want to infuse affirmations and gratitudes into these thoughts and dreams.
We use these affirmations and gratitudes to reinforce and reprogram the belief,
The trust in ourselves that we can do it,
Whatever we choose to do,
By putting forth our energy like we used to do,
By taking action.
Pay special note to the fact that we've not included any negative contractions such as I can't.
If you're going to approach your dreams and goals with the attitude of I can't,
You may as well take your box of dreams and skills and throw them off the cliff,
Throw them out the window,
Because if you can't do it,
Then you're wasting your time.
If you can't,
You won't,
And you'll accomplish nothing and mostly be down on yourself because you didn't and you couldn't,
And so there you are in the pit of self-pity and despair.
It all depends on our thoughts and choices of where we want to focus our energy and who is at the controls of our rocket ship.
As we bring this personal inventory exercise to an end,
For now,
And go about our busy day,
Our lives,
Our duties,
Our responsibilities,
Take a few brief moments occasionally throughout the day to invest in yourself,
Your direction,
Your commitment to your true desires.
What little steps can be taken throughout the day today to bring you closer,
To make you stronger in your chosen direction,
Something that by day's end,
When you lie down to sleep,
That you can think back over your day and smile,
Knowing that you did something for yourself that made you happy,
Something that you can build on to make yourself happy tomorrow,
Something that you can build on to make yourself happy for all of your days,
Something that came from within that you created.
