A moment of prayer at sunset at the Provincetown dunes on Cape Cod.
For sunset is a time of gratitude of the day past and gratitude for the evening ahead.
We see the golden light of the sinking sun lay before us as so many days before this one our lived out days lie.
Our Lord's smile of sun says goodbye.
The sun turns the earth green,
Grows food we eat,
Blooms the flowers and is the clock for all species.
The sun now rests the day for us.
And it is here I walk into this evening hour as I praise the Creator who gives us this eternal life.
The sound of the sand beneath my feet as I walk.
Crickets singing,
Distant ocean waves are music as I walk.
The crush of the sand beneath my feet,
Miles of sand dunes,
Miles and extraordinary numbers of grains of sand.
And all these grains of sand are God's good thoughts for us more than all the grains of sand.
They are our Creator's loving thoughts of each unique one of us,
Innumerable beyond our comprehension.
Our Creator loves me more than I love myself.
That I know.
As the light becomes night around me,
Day ends.
The sand sinks beneath my feet,
One step at a time as I walk in the red and lavender golden glow.
I know you are with me Lord in this moment of beauty.
You love me beyond my knowing.
Thank you for this sun,
This walk,
These dunes,
This day,
This evening prayer to you.
Thank you for your love.
Thank you for your light.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Amen.
