There are people who will treat us badly during our lifetimes, and there are also people who simply refuse to acknowledge that we are here. This happened to me recently, and I have written this poem for anyone who has also been completely ignored. I would truly love to hear from you or hear your story if you would like to comment. If you would like to be seen or acknowledged, I would be more than honored to hear from you, and respond. You have worth

I will never be a millionaire or go to the Academy Awards.

I'll never have a TV show watched at home by hordes.

I'll never be a size zero or even seven or eight.

So thank you for reminding me my existence has no weight.

I rise each day with autism,

It stays the whole day through.

There are horrors I've survived,

Not an easy thing to do.

So thank you for refusing to acknowledge that I'm here.

You just don't seem to understand.

So let me make it clear.

I have changed the lives of those held in my heart.

I am loved despite your stance.

You've had it from the start.

I have things I've yet to say that you want me to drop.

My darling,

I've faced worse than you.

I'm not about to stop.

I've learned in 40 years my worth comes just from me.

No life has more value just because it's on TV.

To all who listen,

I hope you know.

If you're not on a magazine,

If you are a farmer or a single parent of three,

If you have been marginalized or taught you just aren't there,

Then you've been shown instead the strength you have to spare.

I'd love to hear your story.

I'd be honored to know your name.

To truly say I'm sorry if you too have been shamed.

I would like nothing more than to say I notice you're here.

I'm not about to stop.

Because others live in fear.

😓 you are often the only one I find who names it, calls it, and powerfully faces the daily life of the marginalized or minimized. I'm in the wake of a 7 month mental abuse at the hands of an employer. Purposeful disregarding of contributions, blatant ignoring, pointed attempts to crush my spirit- mean girl stuff. I luckily resigned but not before it took a toll. I had a post trauma response today that helped me realize how raw I still am in the aftermath. Your poem evokes the place inside of me that resisted the campaign to make me invisible. The place that says Fu&k you to those who seek to harm and belittle. It's that fight inside that helps us regain balance and survive. Thank YOU for your affirmation here, and rally cry for the survivors ♡
