I will never be a millionaire or go to the Academy Awards.
I'll never have a TV show watched at home by hordes.
I'll never be a size zero or even seven or eight.
So thank you for reminding me my existence has no weight.
I rise each day with autism,
It stays the whole day through.
There are horrors I've survived,
Not an easy thing to do.
So thank you for refusing to acknowledge that I'm here.
You just don't seem to understand.
So let me make it clear.
I have changed the lives of those held in my heart.
I am loved despite your stance.
You've had it from the start.
I have things I've yet to say that you want me to drop.
My darling,
I've faced worse than you.
I'm not about to stop.
I've learned in 40 years my worth comes just from me.
No life has more value just because it's on TV.
To all who listen,
I hope you know.
If you're not on a magazine,
If you are a farmer or a single parent of three,
If you have been marginalized or taught you just aren't there,
Then you've been shown instead the strength you have to spare.
I'd love to hear your story.
I'd be honored to know your name.
To truly say I'm sorry if you too have been shamed.
I would like nothing more than to say I notice you're here.
I'm not about to stop.
Because others live in fear.
