Bedtime with Mrs.
Honeybee.
Melody Bee and I are out enjoying this sunny afternoon.
As we prune the veggies in the veggie garden and plant new seeds in the soil,
We hear something rustle in a nearby tree.
Mrs.
Honeybee,
Did you see that?
I heard it,
But didn't see anything.
What was that?
It was a bird.
A really colorful one too,
With green wings and an orange head.
That sounds like it could be a lovebird.
I'll grab the binoculars.
Melody Bee returns with binoculars up to her eyes,
Scanning the nearby tree for signs of love.
It's not one,
But two love birds.
Here,
Take a look.
Now I see them.
Oh,
I think I see a couple eggs in their nest,
Right beside them.
Oh,
Oh,
Let me see.
You're right.
There are one,
Two,
Four eggs.
And if we're really quiet,
We can hear their precious little chirps.
Oh goodness,
Do you think lovebirds sing love songs,
Since they can't write love letters?
Of course they do.
Okay,
I'm going to try to listen and see if I can hear this love song.
Whoa!
That was some note.
These lovebirds must be singing the blues.
That wasn't the lovebirds,
Melody Bee.
Look over there.
Still looking through the binoculars,
Melody Bee quickly turns from the tree to our driveway in search of what made that sound.
Do you see it,
Melody Bee?
All I see is gray strands.
What kind of bird is it?
It's not a bird at all.
It's Mr.
Honeybee.
I think you're zoomed in on his mustache.
Mrs.
Honeybee,
Melody Bee,
Look what I've got for the day.
We join Mr.
Honeybee out in the driveway to check out the golf cart he borrowed for today,
And we will tell him all about the lovebirds we saw.
Oh,
Look over there.
What is it,
Melody Bee?
Did you see another honeybee?
Kinda.
It's a bee hummingbird.
You see it up there?
You'll have to use the binoculars.
Oh,
I see it.
Wait,
Where is it?
I can't find it.
It's the world's smallest bird,
So it's a little hard to see.
It's right over there.
Oh,
Now I see.
Look at her eggs in the nest.
They're the size of a small coin.
Oh,
Goodness.
Is the bee hummingbird flying upside down?
Yes,
Isn't that so cool?
They flap their teeny tiny wings so fast,
They can actually fly backwards,
Too.
Whew,
We've been out birdwatching for a while.
Let's stop for a quick snack.
I packed us berries from the garden and some of Harold's favorite treats.
Hmm,
These are so sweet.
It's so important to give your body the fuel it needs,
And also little treats,
Too.
My little honeybee,
What's your favorite treat?
Mine is ice cream sandwiches.
Is spaghetti considered a treat?
Because that's my favorite.
Almost anything is considered a treat,
If you love it.
Hmm,
My favorite treat is mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Remember that one time we made homemade ice cream with fresh mint from the garden?
I do.
I was the proud taste tester of that recipe.
Always remember,
Mrs.
Honeybee believes in you.
You are special and you are loved.
I can't wait to see you again.
