Today.
It's gonna be quick.
My ambition is to be quick.
Today,
Day nine,
The emotion is ambition.
These next two days,
Today and tomorrow,
Stand at a crossroads,
Kind of.
It's like,
Is it an emotion or is it an action?
And I think it's both.
You get to choose for yourself.
Is it an adjective or an adverb?
But these are important.
I'll stick with calling them emotions.
Today and tomorrow,
They're important emotions to include in this 10-day run-through that we are doing because they are part of the equation of everything we are and part of the equation of my,
I try not to use any emotional words,
Of my impetus for being here at all.
So,
It's a lot of ambiguous statements there,
But it does mean something.
Ambition.
Welcome to For the Brush.
I'm Patricia Baldwin-Sagerberg and we meet here to realize the creative spirit in all of us and weave a tapestry of that creativity so that it spreads around the world and up levels the way we interact with each other and everything.
I say it a little different every time.
The quotes today,
Rilke then Rumi.
Rilke,
Go to the limits of your longing.
Experience it all,
Beauty and longing.
The pure and absolute solitude with which we leave the world exerts a pull.
Do not pretend to know something you have not experienced.
It is a necessary dying and then breathing again.
Very little grows on a jagged rock.
Be ground,
Be crumpled so wildflowers will come up where you are.
Rumi here speaks to death and living,
Sure,
But what I hear is that call that comes in between to living one's best form in that life between that first and last breath.
I read Rumi's words as a call to be ambitious to life.
You are part of the equation that solves the problem of moving forward.
You,
Creative,
Hold the key to going on.
Let's see what comes from the kind of faith that is putting our artistic selves on the line.
There's much to lose but there's nothing to lose in giving one's all.
This excerpt from my newsletter seems apropos for today's topic,
Ambition.
It is me spewing my ambition to inspire others.
Ambition though that is strongly tied to trust once again.
Are you sick of it yet?
I trust that my life has seen this crumbling Rumi prescribes and that therefore my ambition is solid.
It's causing wildflowers to bloom in me and therefore I get to be a part of bringing bright real color to the world that chooses to glance my way.
Trust is the seating that has to be for all else to be centered,
Aligned,
Balanced and healthy.
Ambition too is tethered to this trust.
My ambition comes wholly from a trust that no matter if I can't see it there is something bigger going on and I am playing my right part.
The role I hold as artist,
Author and instructor as well as those of mother,
Wife,
Host,
Caregiver all evolve from a trust in this something unseen and my ambition is fed by it.
It can take a while to form this kind of trust.
Not everyone is born abject to a faith in one direction.
I myself have worked in many different modes even just within the art.
They have this slowly distilled to become a firm set of values that feed my ambition.
I say I am here to create an environment.
That's all.
It's up to all the others who show up to find the life I have seated therein,
Be inspired by what beauty I have created and to take up their own sword to march forward in ambitious determination.
So here I ask you what is your sword?
What is your ambition to bring to the world?
What else do you need to make it become?
Tomorrow we're going to address Ambition's twin brother.
They walk together in order to do their best work but today,
Ambition.
See what it feels like.
