How much do we resist being afraid?
Pretend to not be afraid when we are.
Because it doesn't match the spiritual image of ourselves that we have created.
We think being afraid is wrong,
So we don't want other people to know that we're afraid,
So we pretend not to be afraid.
Which is to distance yourself from the real opportunity.
You know,
Funny story.
When I first met my wife.
And she,
You know,
Was learning about this thing that I do.
Which in her mind essentially is me.
I help other people.
Which was a very broad concept.
And then I was also so radically honest with her about my fears and inadequacies.
And she got super confused.
How can you have these fears and inadequacies if you are?
Helping other people.
Live their best life essentially.
And I explained to her,
You know.
Essentially,
I'm helping people be more honest with themselves.
So that they don't have to hide from their own humanity.
Which frees them.
To Be more present.
And everything else that comes with that.
And so,
You know,
It illustrates the point I was making where.
We have these fantasies of.
.
.
What it is to live our best life.
When really,
So often.
We're simply trying to escape our humanity.
The real doorway to a beautiful life is more akin to a courage to be honest.
Which is like saying.
.
.
I'm not afraid to be myself.
Which is funny because deep down in some way or another,
People's hearts are craving in such a way that says,
I wish I could just be myself.
Isn't that not the great freedom?
But then some people say,
I don't like myself.
Well,
Maybe you don't like yourself because you don't let yourself be yourself.
You think something's wrong with you.
And the more you see the truth of what you are,
You see that there's nothing wrong with you.
Which is interesting too,
Because if you look at all your problematic behaviors or patterns,
They all stem from a self-judgment.
And so we're being so violent with ourselves.
In a way that says,
Dear self,
I will love you if.
Which is saying to yourself,
If you don't be what you are,
Then I'll love you.
How's that gonna work?
To say I will love you if is saying I don't love you right now.
To say I will love you if is weaponizing love.
It's a tool of manipulation.
It's a false promise.
It's one of the most predominant ways that people operate with themselves.
As a consequence of the way that they operate with other people.
I'll love you if.
And that's not love.
Which is such a beautiful inquiry to see what love really is.
