Hi,

And welcome to this guided meditation session on Insight Timer.

This recording is created to set you up for a 20-minute silent practice on your own or with a group,

And to begin with a short quote of your choosing to center yourself.

After the introduction,

You will hear one chime to indicate the beginning of the silent practice,

And then after 20 minutes you will hear three chimes to indicate the end of the practice.

I will also offer the four guidelines of centering prayer and meditation.

Whether or not you choose to practice centering prayer and meditation,

You are welcome to practice in whatever form or style you like during the 20-minute silent period.

Below are the four guidelines of centering prayer and meditation.

1.

Choose a sacred word as the symbol of your intention to consent to God's presence and action within.

2.

Sit in comfortably and with eyes closed.

Settle briefly and silently introduce the sacred word as the symbol of your consent to God's presence and action within.

3.

When engaged with your thoughts,

Return ever so gently to the sacred word.

Remember that thoughts can include body sensations,

Feelings,

Images,

Memories,

And reflections.

And 4.

At the end of the prayer period,

Remain in silence with the eyes closed for a couple of minutes.

Now you are invited to take a moment to read the opening quote or reflection of your choosing,

Or,

If you are listening during a group meditation here in Insight Timer,

You may view the quote posted by your host in the chat now.

Following a minute to read and review the quote,

The first chime will signal the beginning of our 20-minute practice session together.

4.

When you are listening to the sacred word,

You are entitled to read the opening quote or reflection of your choosing.

5.

Just what I was looking to use. Thanks! I do it on my own at least twice daily have for decades. I do Zoom M - F StillpointCA Centering at 5:35 PM. I time Monday @ 10 AM Centering Prayer Practice Zoom. I wondered if a similar structure was on Insight? Yes!

Excellent. I appreciated Thomas explaining the four principles of centering prayer and then having 20 minutes in which we actually do it. Thanks.
