Early Eyes by Isabella Fiske McFarlane My early eyes awoke to summer light I rose in rose-sweet air in such delight Went forth to wander in the woods of yore Sought magic pebbles where the wild brook roars Joy of all joys!

To see all things with eyes that view miraculous Both frog-eggs and the skies And hear on ancient hills in leafy loam Sprang seeds of the divine my own true home To glory in green mossy stones and in fall's gulp A hundred mullion jewels this earth unfolds To children and to mystics Naked in the dew,

On my bare feet I roamed At last I met some whose such visions shared in bliss Our inner dune assuredly eternal seemed And no tongue's rune did hint that of all this we'd be bereaved The hungry world I could not then conceive Came forth to rape and rob that power That blessings placed on every fruit and flower Like unto rubies and now fast bound Towards universal fate,

All things go down Is this earth lost?

If not saved soon,

Despair Sweet,

Bright and shining land Its water,

Air,

And we the only animal among Eternally denying the song we could have sung Believing we must conquer If we could understand that cliffs,

Fields,

Cornfields Red clay,

Sand,

The dune-lined windshore And all that dwells in deep,

In foaming ocean And its swells,

The clownfish and the marlin And the tidepool's star,

No less than great cathedrals wholly are If this earth is poisoned and all beings gone Perhaps some insects left to carry on Our lives,

Too,

Shall be lost What we assumed our rightful part to be Has brought all creatures doom For human beings who gave up delight For plastic doodads rises endless night Can it be altered?

If we quickly change all that we do Abandon our deranged and stupid actions Perhaps We humans chose the painful thorn Yet choose the blooming rose Look in your heart and mind for jewels bright Find luminous awareness and not endless night This lovely earth let be For children come Who also wish to roam the hills beneath the sun If everything that lives cannot be known To us as sentient,

Lives precious as our own All shall be lost Then no more we earth's fruit,

Its flower and its poison be Dedicated to Adeline,

Lachlan and Elowen May you roam the hills By Isabella Fisk McFarlane Thank you Much love Until we meet again

Wow!! Beloved Yvonne, I cannot thank you enough. I couldn’t help crying! I’ve never heard this read out loud all the way through. I just whispered pieces of it to myself as I wrote it. You understand it so well, and understand me so well, that it arises from both our hearts to recreate the incredibly lovely world I grew up in , both inner and outer— juxtaposed against the fate of the Earth, and of all beings, if we don’t change the way things are going. But I hope we will. I certainly would love to know that the three children to whom the poem is dedicated— my grandchildren and their cousin —and all other children, will have a chance to rejoice in all creation seen in the light of our great divine essence. I love you so much! How lucky we are that we met and have co-created, which is the greatest of all delights.. Even if we never meet in the body , we are together in eternity and infinity. Thank you, dearest one. And Brian! 💚❤️🐸🐸– Ladybelle 💕
