Pratika has been importing, selling and using Tuning Forks and Nepalese Singing bowls for over 20 years in his Sound and Vibrational Therapy practice, after studying with renowned Johnathan Goldman in the US. Here he shares his practical knowledge of, and how to use both.

Transcript

Hello.

This is a fairly impromptu video.

I had the inspiration this morning after being a sound therapy practitioner for many years in Australia before coming to Thailand.

I used a number of therapy instruments that I first came across when I did an intensive sound therapy training course with Jonathan Goldman in the US a couple of years ago,

And there were 90 practitioners from various parts of the world who attended this intensive workshop,

And it was really an extraordinary experience.

One of the benefits for me was,

I guess,

Understanding the very sensitive elements of some of the therapy tools that are available now.

In particular,

There's a couple here that I'd like to talk about today.

One of them is a tuning forks,

And the other one is singing bowls,

Particularly the metal singing bowls.

Now,

In relation to the tuning forks,

There are many different frequencies available,

And really it is your choice to decide perhaps which ones you would like to use.

But I would suggest in the beginning,

Perhaps the simplest one to use and the one that I have found to have the most impact is the tuning fork tuned to the heart chakra frequency.

Now,

When you purchase a tuning fork,

There are many available.

Obviously,

There are different sizes,

Different frequencies,

But the ones I would suggest,

And this is only through my own experience having used both stainless steel and aluminium tuning forks,

I find the aluminium tuning forks have a far superior range of harmonics.

And it's the harmonics really that have the capacity to enter the energy field of the body and to bring and adjust a rebalancing.

They also help to perhaps retune elements of the body which are out of tune.

And I found them to be extraordinarily powerful.

Now,

I used to actually import a lot of tuning forks,

Only because I was not only using them,

But also selling them at a very big tourist market in Australia where I used to live.

And I sold hundreds and hundreds of tuning forks.

But the one that I sold mostly was the tuning fork tuned to the heart frequency,

The heart chakra frequency.

Now,

When you look at a tuning fork,

You'll see,

Yes,

There are some stainless steel ones,

And there are also as many those who are made in aluminium.

But you'll notice on the end here,

These sort of bigger sections on the end,

These are there specifically to,

Once you activate the tuning fork,

Once it's actually vibrating,

The fact that you have these weighted ends makes the vibration last longer.

So the experience is felt longer.

Rather than those tuning forks,

Which you can buy,

They don't have these weighted ends.

So these are actually called weighted tuning forks.

And if you're working on the body,

You're working with clients on the body or even to use on yourself,

I would recommend these that have the weights on them.

Now,

These are adjustable.

You can slide them up and down.

There is a little capacity at the back there for an Allen key to go in.

You can unloosen it and you can slide these down.

But I have found over the years,

From using them for many years,

That the advantage is to have the weights at the very end.

Now,

When you actually activate a tuning fork,

I'm just trying to get used to looking into the screen here,

You'll notice that there are the forks here,

There's the weights at the end,

And then there's a tail.

And this is the area,

It's the end of this tail that you place on the body.

So when you actually activate the tuning fork,

You generally hold that tail,

And I'll sit back and probably make it easier for you.

You hold the tail,

You're not holding it here,

You're holding it on the tail itself.

If you hold it here,

Anywhere on the fork itself,

It'll dampen the vibration very quickly.

So you,

In fact,

I prefer to hold it like this,

Where the end of the tail is actually free.

And then when you,

I keep hitting the microphone,

When you actually activate the fork and you want to place it directly on a client,

Then your fingers are already in a position where they are free of the end,

Which means you can then directly place it on the person's body.

Now,

To activate the forks,

To actually get them to vibrate,

Some fork kits that you will get will have a little wooden mallet,

Which has a rubber end on it,

And you can bang it on this and you'll feel it'll start to vibrate instantly.

The other ones you can get,

They have a strap-on knee pad arrangement,

So you can actually just lower your hands,

Strike your thigh.

I guess it's more of a thigh position rather than a knee pad.

Hit your thigh,

Which has the rubber pad on it,

And that'll activate it there.

I prefer to use the heel,

And I'll turn it so you can see.

I prefer to use the heel of my hand here.

Now,

This could be painful if you're doing a lot of tuning forks,

Or sounding often with one client,

But I find that if you do it correctly,

That it doesn't hurt,

Right?

And particularly if you are going to strike with the flat rather than the edge,

With the flat,

Then it's not uncomfortable at all.

Now,

You probably can't,

You may be able to hear that.

It's very subtle,

But the moment you sound the fork,

These ends are now vibrating,

And the whole fork is now resonating in this particular frequency,

Which is the heart chakra,

Which is around about 528 hertz.

You get other variations of that,

But that's about approximately where it is.

Now,

Once you have a client who has,

And firstly,

Get their permission,

Because some clients are fairly sensitive to being touched,

Particularly around the chest region,

And this is where you can place the tuning fork on the sternum.

There's no need to remove any clothing.

You can just place it on the outside of the clothing.

So once it's activated,

It's now humming.

I can hear it quite easily.

Then you just go down,

And if this was someone's sternum,

Just go down and then place it on the sternum like that,

And hold it there.

And you will feel when the tuning fork is actually losing its resonating capacity,

Lift it off,

Hit it again,

Go back and place it again.

Now,

You will find,

And you can do this on yourself,

You will find that the sternum,

The chest bone,

The sternum bone is very,

Very resonant.

So the moment you place the activated fork on that bone area,

The whole chest region just expands.

Now,

One thing to get used to,

Get ready for your client's response,

Because invariably,

The response will be,

Ah.

It is really,

Really powerful,

And you can instantly feel them let go,

And it's very potent.

I remember on a couple of occasions actually standing at my stall selling these Nepalese beaten singing bowls and other instruments,

Other harmonic instruments that I was importing and selling.

But people would walk past,

And they say,

What's this?

And I say,

Well,

It's a tuning fork.

What does it do?

I say,

Well,

Look,

The best way for me to,

Or the best way for you to feel what it does is for me to activate it and place it on your body.

Are you okay with that?

And they say,

Yeah,

Yeah,

Yeah.

So they're standing,

And they're moving close to the edge of the table.

I activate it,

And I just lean over,

And I just touch them on the sternum.

Now,

Invariably,

The reaction will be,

Oh my goodness,

It's so powerful,

To the point that I have had both men and women instantly have an emotional release,

And tears will come down their face.

It is that powerful.

I had one,

I remember one beautiful young woman,

She was a backpacker from Europe,

Probably in her late 20s,

Early 30s,

And she asked the same question.

So I activated the fork and asked her permission,

Do you mind if I place it on your sternum,

On your chest bone?

She said,

No,

It's okay.

The moment I did,

She started sobbing,

And like almost uncontrollably,

There was a huge energy release.

So I could see she was quite upset,

Just emotionally releasing.

So I invited her into the back of the stool area,

And asked,

Would you like to sit down,

And got her a drink of water?

And she just quietly said,

Look,

This space is yours,

You can just relax.

And when you're ready to come back,

Just be fully present in the experience you're having.

And then she was there for a few minutes,

And she slowly began to,

Her tears began to stop,

And then she just went,

I can't believe how powerful that was.

So that was some,

And she was a young,

Bright,

Vibrant woman,

On the surface,

You wouldn't have had any idea of that energy that she was holding,

But it was an immediate release.

So this is the power.

Now,

The other tuning fork that I,

If you are thinking of buying them,

So this is the heart chakra,

And there's also OM,

The OM tuning fork,

That's also as equally as powerful.

That's two,

Right?

And the other one that I would suggest is the tuning fork tuned to the throat chakra.

Now,

I can't remember the frequency of that fork at the moment,

But all of them are weighted forks,

Like they have these big ends on them.

Now,

The reason that I mention the throat chakra is that this is often a place where expressions,

People who would normally be able to express,

Actually have a closing down.

They feel quite,

Not necessarily ashamed,

But they're just unable to express their emotions freely.

Unable in terms of where other people can just quietly talk about this or that.

Other people who have some restrictions,

Some energetic restriction in and around the throat region will find it difficult.

And you'll notice that particularly if you're doing body toning,

When it comes to toning the frequency of the heart of the throat chakra,

You'll notice that they could become quite emotional and find very difficult to actually tone that particular frequency.

So the reason I mentioned this is part of the training with Jonathan Goldman.

We all took it in turns,

But you would lie on a massage table,

And then you would do a body scan.

Now,

What that means is that you would use your own voice and your own base frequency voice.

We all have our own resonant frequency,

And it's invariably in F or G,

Where you simply just tone.

You start toning like,

So that's the way you're toning.

And you start at the person's head,

And you keep going.

You'll take a half-take breath probably somewhere,

But you start from the head and go all the way down to the toes.

Now,

In that process,

In that scanning process,

There will be a point somewhere where you're listening to your own voice,

But you will notice that your own voice tone will change.

It'll either go deeper or higher.

Now,

And it's quite amazing.

You can actually feel it energetically as you're scanning across a person's body.

Now,

The moment that it begins to change,

You can just stop and you can just visually see where you are over the body.

And invariably,

Most of those places will be either over the heart,

Over the throat,

Or down around the bottom of the stomach area.

Those three areas tend to be the areas most where you'll get a variation in your own tone.

Now,

That doesn't mean that the person is actually at a balance in those places.

It's actually a reference for you to know where,

If you want to concentrate,

Perhaps using the tuning fork,

Or you want to sound a particular Nepalese metal bowl,

Just hold the bowl over these regions.

And you might get a couple of changes.

It might be the throat and the heart,

Or it might be the heart and the lower plexus down by the stomach region.

So,

You will be able to hear it,

And with a bit of practice.

Then you just go straight back.

You've made a mental picture of where there's a point on that client where you know you can concentrate some energy fields.

And then whatever instrument you're using,

If it's a tuning fork,

It's a singing bowl,

Just spend some time there.

So,

That's really all I wanted to share in terms of using tuning forks.

Now,

Once again,

I'm holding it.

You can see now the shaft is free at the end.

So,

I'm sounding it by activating it,

Hitting it on my palm,

Or like the heel of my hand.

And it's vibrating now,

And you can hear.

Now,

You can also not only place it directly on a person's body,

On say the sternum,

For example.

Now,

For those of you who are doing acupuncture work or pressure point work,

These are also perfect for that.

You can place it directly wherever you feel there's a need for the particular frequency.

You can place a tuning fork on that area as well.

Now,

What a tuning fork does,

It's a vibrational healing.

So,

The person who's responding to the vibration of this heel being touched directly on their body.

Now,

You can also bring into the energy body of the person the frequency of the fork,

Not only by sounding it directly on their body,

But by activating it and then bringing it up near their ears.

So,

This is going directly into the olfactory,

Into the hearing mechanism of the body,

And then internally,

Energetically,

It's going through the whole body.

And it's also equally as powerful.

Now,

One thing to be cautious,

And it is worth asking people before you do activate the fork,

And you're going to say,

Look,

I'm going to bring it up near your ears,

Ask them,

Do they have a hearing problem?

Are they sensitive to sound?

And generally,

You can assume that people are sensitive to sound,

Particularly depending on the frequency that you're using.

So,

Once you've activated the fork,

When you bring it up to the,

Don't bring it straight next to the ear because it's quite abrupt and it's very,

Very powerful.

So,

Activate the tuning fork and then bring it in very gradually.

So,

Start about eight or 10 inches away,

Then bring it in slowly.

Now,

The reason for bringing it in slowly is that the peak activation will be humming,

Resonating while it's furthest away from the ear.

So,

As it continues to vibrate,

The intensity of the vibration begins to diminish,

Which means it's safer for you to bring it closer and closer and closer to the ear.

And then that's a very gentle way to introduce the frequency,

The sound waves of that particular resonance going directly into the energy field of the body.

All right.

And they're very,

Very powerful.

But you can get sets of tuning forks.

You can get the whole-soul Fegio frequency range.

You can get tuning forks which clear the energy and crystals.

When I was buying these,

There was a sound engineer in India who I used to buy them off.

Look,

It's probably about 12 years ago,

And I can't remember his name.

And I've kind of lost all details,

Contact details of him because now living in Thailand,

I don't have any clients anymore.

But I would recommend,

And it's your choice,

I would recommend getting the aluminium forks because they have a greater range of harmonics than the stainless steel forks.

Okay.

So that's tuning forks.

Now,

The other thing I wanted to talk about quickly was Nepali singing bowls.

These also I used to import.

Now,

You can get big bowls like this.

You don't have to get them as big as this because the bigger they are,

The more expensive they are and the heavier they are.

But also,

The bigger they are,

The deeper the resonance is.

Now,

One thing I would suggest,

And this is very personal in terms of you acquiring Nepali singing bowls,

Hand-beaten bowls.

You can get some beautiful machine bowls,

Don't get me wrong,

But I prefer the hand-beaten.

Pardon me.

I would suggest when you go to buy them,

Never buy them online because the frequency of the bowl is going to be unique to you.

You will feel which bowl is the best for you.

If you buy one online,

It might look very beautiful and it might be a great price.

But when you get it and you sound it,

It's discordant.

It doesn't match your energy field.

And if it doesn't match your energy field,

Then when you're using it on clients,

It's not going to have the impact that it should.

So I would always recommend,

Where possible,

Go to a shop that sells singing bowls and listen to them individually.

You will know which is the one that is best for you.

Whether they're small,

Whether you get two or three,

It makes no difference.

But you will get a bowl and all of a sudden,

Once you find a bowl that really resonates with you,

Then your whole energy field is totally receptive and is emitting the same frequency as what the bowl is giving you,

Which means when you're working with a client,

Then that experience is amplified.

So I would recommend always choose.

Now,

It doesn't matter.

You can get them embossed in pattern and sometimes the best bowls are those that have been kicking around and been years and years old and it's at some maker's shop and it's been in the corner forever and it's kind of lost its way and it's been shoved in the background and all of a sudden it just finds its way into the clear light and that could be just the bowl for you.

It doesn't matter what it looks like and you don't have to bring it home and polish it up,

Look brand new.

Leave it in the condition that it is because it has a very,

Very special energy field in its own right,

Just sitting there.

Now finally,

Just how to sound the bowl.

You can get mallets like this and these mallets are more suited to the bigger bowls.

Now,

As beautiful as that bowl sounds,

That bowl is actually discordant.

I bought this from Chiang Mai,

Which is a thousand kilometers away from where I live.

I wasn't able to go and buy because I wanted to use it more for demonstrations than using it on clients.

Now that bowl,

If I was in the shop where this man has many,

Actually I've known him for years because I've been buying off him for years,

I would have sounded and I did come to Thailand and listen to every single bowl that he had available and I would sound them all and I would pick probably 30 or 40 of them.

I'd take some back home in my luggage and the rest he would ship.

So I knew the bowls that I was selling were all harmonic and all had a very beautiful resonance.

This bowl looks beautiful and it is a beautiful bowl.

It just doesn't suit me personally.

It could well suit somebody else.

Now,

With the big mallets,

You'll get a very deep soft resonance.

If you use the smaller mallets,

Which have like a suede covering,

The pitch is higher,

Crisper,

Also beautiful.

It's your choice.

So just be mindful of those little bit of information I've shared with you.

It's come from years and years of experience,

Not only being trained to use them correctly with Jonathan Goldman,

But also selling them and seeing the effect,

How quickly the effect does touch people's hearts,

Literally,

But also having my own clients and using tuning forks for many,

Many years.

So I hope this helps.

And if you do have any queries,

You can always private message me on Insight and I'll be happy to share any information with you.

I'm just sorry for me looking down,

But I've only got a 25 minute window here to finish this video.

So that's pretty much it for me on this particular subject,

But there are other videos on Insight that I have that you might find yourself venturing to and enjoying.

All the best.

Thank you.

Bye-bye.
