There are moments in history that demand our attention,
Moments that ask us to decide,
Will we speak,
Will we stand,
Or will we look away?
Take a breath,
And let's begin.
First,
They came for the communists,
And I did not speak out because I was not a communist.
Then they came for the socialists,
And I did not speak out because I was not a socialist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
And I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
And I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me,
And there was no one left to speak out for me.
But history does not live only in the past,
We see it now unfolding before our eyes.
Today,
They come for the LGBTQ community,
For trans people,
For queer love,
For our right to be free,
And some stay silent,
But love is not silent.
Today,
They come for migrants,
And some look away.
Today,
They come for truth,
And some believe it doesn't concern them.
Today,
They come for women's autonomy,
And some choose comfort over courage.
Today,
They come for people of color,
And some say that's not my fight.
Today,
They come for refugees,
The unhoused,
The vulnerable,
And some say they should have made better choices.
But make no mistake.
Silence is complicity,
And one day,
The silence will come for you.
This is not about fear.
This is about love,
Because love is not silent.
Love is not passive.
Love is action.
So I ask you,
Where in your life are you being called to speak up?
Where are you being called to stand for love?
Sit with it.
Listen.
Because love is speaking to you.
The past echoes into the present,
But today we have a choice.
Love is not passive.
Love is action.
So ask yourself,
Where is love calling you to stand today?
May we remember.
May we stay awake.
May we refuse to look away.
And may we always choose love.
