I used to think anchors were something that holds you down because people in boats use anchors to hold them in place. So when people would use the term anchor as a positive thing, I would think, yeah, but that's also is going to hold me down. Right? I don't want something that's going to hold me down, I want something that's going to lift me up! Then I learned that anchor is also what climbers use when they're scaling a wall and they put something above them to get them to a higher place!

Hi,

This is April and welcome to the April sings a lot podcast,

Where each episode I'll share a story and then a song and invite you to sing along.

I used to think about anchors as something that holds you down,

Right,

Because people in boats or on ships use anchors to hold you in place,

Right?

You get to your fishing spot and you throw down an anchor so you don't go anywhere.

And so when somebody would use the term anchor or like the image of an anchor as like a positive thing,

Like use this as your anchor to to remind you of this positive phrase,

I would think yeah,

But that also is going to hold me down,

Right?

I don't want something that's going to hold me down.

I want something that's going to lift me up.

And then I read the word anchor is also used as a term for what climbers use when they're like scaling a wall,

And they put something ahead of them or above them that they can reach for or put their rope through to like get them to the highest,

The higher point that they need to be.

So yay,

That really helped me with that imagery.

And it helped me to identify more strongly with an anchor as a positive thing.

So I want to anchor myself to something higher than me,

That will lift me up and help me to grow in whatever situation I face.

And fittingly,

Today's song is anchored my soul.

And I invite you to use that imagery of something that's higher than you that you are using to lift you up.

And I personally am using the imagery of our Heavenly Father like holding us because the the rest of the title of the song is anchored my soul in a haven of rest and a shelter in the storm.

And so that to me is a powerful image.

And I invite you to sing along.

My soul and sad exile was out on life's sea.

So burdened with sin and distress.

Till I heard a sweet voice saying,

Make me your choice.

And I entered a haven of rest.

I've anchored my soul in the haven of rest.

I'll sail the wide seas no more.

The tempest may sweep or the wild stormy deep.

In Jesus I'm safe evermore.

I yielded myself to his tender embrace and faith taking hold of the word.

My fetters fell off and I anchored my soul.

The haven of rest is my Lord.

I've anchored my soul in the haven of rest.

I'll sail the wide seas no more.

The tempest may sweep or the wild stormy deep.

In Jesus I'm safe evermore.

The song of my soul since the Lord made me whole.

Has been the old story so blessed.

Of Jesus who'll save whosoever will have.

A home in the haven of rest.

I've anchored my soul in the haven of rest.

I'll sail the wide seas no more.

The tempest may sweep or the wild stormy deep.

In Jesus I'm safe evermore.

Oh come to the Savior he patiently waits.

To save by his power divine.

Come anchor your soul in the haven of rest.

And say my beloved is mine.

I've anchored my soul in the haven of rest.

I'll sail the wide seas no more.

The tempest may sweep or the wild stormy deep.

In Jesus I'm safe evermore.

All right that concludes our episode.
