Hey,

It's Bob here,

And I wanted to talk to you today about beliefs and a couple of perspectives on beliefs that might be a fresh angle for you.

I'm doing something a little different,

But also it's a throwback to my past in that in previous years of doing my various podcasts over the years,

I would sometimes do these things called strollcasts,

Where on a nice day I would take a walk or I'd be out at the park or something,

And I'd get out my voice memo on my phone like I'm doing now and just record some thoughts out in nature,

So away from the home studio.

And so I wanted to do that with you today,

So let's talk about beliefs.

So you probably know I'm in the kind of the inspiration business.

I'm known for affirmations,

But I also enjoy speaking about just personal empowerment and inspiration,

Personal growth,

Definitely falls into the self-help category.

So I'm sure you've been exposed to this type of material as well,

So you know the power of beliefs.

A lot of people talk about it when it comes to improving your life and how our beliefs are those sort of subconscious things that are operating our lives quite often without us being aware of it.

And so the work of personal development is becoming aware,

Keenly aware of your thoughts,

Which then uncover your beliefs so that you become aware of them,

Because again,

These are operating kind of under the hood,

We're kind of on autopilot and our beliefs have been built up over years,

So quite often we're not even aware that we're operating on something that's not serving us.

And so the work of personal development is becoming aware of those beliefs,

Identifying the things that are holding us back,

And then diminishing their impact on us and then replacing them with new thoughts,

New beliefs,

New actions,

And then hopefully an upgraded life that's more in alignment with your dream life and who you feel that you authentically are.

Two things I want to cover.

So one is quite often in this personal development work,

We are trying to identify the beliefs that are holding us back,

And that's really important because improving our lives is not just about adding something new,

Quite often it's about removing the stuff that's slowing us down.

So that is important work.

However,

I want to encourage you to take a broader look at beliefs and just become aware of all of your beliefs,

The good,

The bad,

The neutral,

Because there are some beliefs that we have developed over the years through experience that actually serve us.

In my case,

There's a lot of things that I feel very confident about.

I have a belief in myself as a writer,

As a communicator,

Certainly as a musician,

A singer,

A songwriter.

So we shouldn't just demonize these subconscious beliefs because many of them serve us and they're good for us.

And so let's become aware of and appreciate the full range of them.

Now,

If you're a human being,

You also have beliefs that are holding you back about how you're not worthy enough or you're not good enough to pursue this thing that you have this urge to pursue.

And so yeah,

There are a lot of definitely beliefs dating back to childhood or whatever based on experiences,

Just negative thoughts that we've had that we definitely need to become aware of and then hopefully upgrade them.

But let's not just discount all beliefs and just realize that there are some that serve us.

And so we should celebrate the beliefs that we have that empower us,

Do more of those,

Strengthen those,

And then diminish or replace or at least become aware of and do the work to slowly upgrade the ones that are not serving us.

But here's another concept.

What are your beliefs about beliefs?

Hmm.

I actually heard this from someone I've been following in recent months.

Her name is Kathleen Cameron.

She's all about manifestation.

And this came up.

I never really thought about it this way.

What are your beliefs about beliefs?

So do you believe that beliefs are like firmly ingrained and like the ones that are slowing you down are so part of who you are that it's going to take forever to replace them,

That you're always going to be plagued by them?

So that's a belief that you have about beliefs.

But what if you change that?

What if you thought,

Yeah,

This belief has been sort of influencing my thoughts,

My actions,

My emotions for many years now,

But maybe I can change it.

Maybe it won't take a lifetime.

Maybe it won't take months or years to replace.

And so just reexamine your belief about beliefs.

Can you become aware of them?

Can you change them?

Is it going to be hard to install new beliefs or upgrade them?

Maybe it could be easy,

Effortless.

Maybe you can be fun,

Joyful,

And creative.

So I just thought that was a really interesting take on it.
