Welcome to this meditation where we will endeavour to together uncover what we first are.
Because what we first are is beautiful,
Loving and real,
Allowing the body to find a place of rest and equilibrium,
Noticing that it does so without a single thought,
It simply knows where it wants to be,
And as you take your attention onto the sensation of the body,
Which simply means noticing that you have one without having to look at it,
We provide a benign,
Neutral anchor point for the brain to rest on,
Allowing us to be completely here,
Alert,
Poised and so at any point,
If the brain begins to think and run off,
We can effortlessly redirect our attention to the simplicity and groundedness of our body.
Take a deep breath and just let it go,
Now imagine that we could take a step backwards,
So to speak,
Into a finer place,
A place we could call knowing,
This is the place that knows that you are breathing without a single thought,
That knows that there is sensation without a single thought,
That knows that there is sound without any movement of mind,
In other words,
This knowing knows your experience,
This knowing is pure knowledge,
Your knowledge,
Direct,
Simple,
Most importantly,
Observe in your own experience that this knowing knows that it knows,
You know,
In other words,
The knowing that you are is self-aware,
There are many names for this knowing,
Presence,
Consciousness,
Atman,
Luminous emptiness in Buddhism,
God's mind in the Christian traditions,
This knowing has been described for thousands of years and we could say it's our most intimate,
Direct experience,
Notice if the mind wants to move,
Wants to understand,
Any understanding is secondary,
It requires a thought which introduces time,
Whereas this knowing or presence that you are is now,
The simplest name that we have for this knowing,
The everyday name,
Is the name we call ourselves,
I,
Which grounds in us as the knowledge,
I am,
If your mind has begun to wander,
Without judgment,
Redirect the attention through the sensation of the body,
The body can only be felt,
Sensed now,
You can't feel your body tomorrow,
You can't feel the sensation of your body yesterday,
This helps us to simply be here in the experience of being aware,
Notice that every thought comes and goes,
Every feeling,
Sense perception,
Sound,
Taste,
Smell,
Appears and disappears,
Who is the one that sees all of the comings and goings,
Who is the one that never comes or goes,
You,
Consciousness,
Awareness,
Being,
Never come or go,
You are not in time,
For time requires thought,
You are this moment,
Experiencing all of the change,
Everything on every level,
And yet you are completely free of it,
You are freedom itself,
You are the home that we long for,
But can never find outside of ourselves,
Until we have had enough experience to realise what hurts,
To realise what suffering is,
Whereby we then begin to direct our attention to what we first are,
What we always are,
What we have always been and always will be,
The loving,
Open,
Creative,
Eternal and infinite being.
Here's to you,
The sacred one,
The survivor,
The thriver,
The mountain climber,
The lover,
The daughter,
The son,
The father,
The mother,
The seeker,
The finder,
Creator of your own dream,
Here's to you,
The only one that ever was,
Here,
Now,
Eternity,
Moving,
Yet completely still,
It's breathing,
You are breathing,
Here's to you,
The infinite one,
Undefinable,
Uncontainable,
The one who sees all comings and goings,
Of each thought,
Each breath,
Each feeling,
Each sense perception,
And yet you remain,
Alone,
The love that taketh no form.
Oh how,
When all is said and done,
All that is left is the love that we first are.
Here's to you and the life you've made,
The love you've gave,
Selfless,
Free,
Fingers smoothing in the breeze,
Without thought,
Fragile,
Always giving your absolute best,
Take deep rest,
Sigh and smile loudly,
Every moment,
All the love that you are is already here,
Here's to you,
Here's to beauty,
Here's to you.
