When we feel overwhelmed and stressed,
It's not uncommon to also feel isolated and alone.
We experience so many struggles,
Big and small,
And often feel that no one would really understand,
Much less be able to help.
Close your eyes and sit comfortably.
Take a few deep cleansing breaths.
Notice any areas that are tense and invite this tension to release with your out-breath.
These deep breaths,
This intentional relaxation,
These are all small drops filling you back up when you feel you have been wrung out.
Notice your breath and relaxation deepen.
In this more centered space,
Consider all the other people in the world who likely feel just as you do right now.
Perhaps their circumstances are the same or very different,
But imagine that many people in this moment feel stressed,
Sad,
Confused,
Or overwhelmed just as you do.
As you connect with the difficulties others are coping with,
Imagine your heart fills with warmth and light,
The warmth and light of compassion,
Of empathy.
Say to yourself,
May all who are suffering as I am be happy and well.
May all who are suffering as I am be happy and well.
Feel the warmth in your chest grow.
Now say to yourself,
May I be happy and well.
As you go through your day,
Offer yourself the same compassion you have just offered to others.
Open your eyes.
