The easiest and least expensive way to make your life immediately better,
To improve your focus,
To reduce your stress,
To improve your relationships with others,
To develop your mind,
To give you more satisfaction,
Is to spend 20 minutes every single day reading fiction or poetry.
Short stories,
Novels,
Poems,
Whatever resonates with you,
Hopefully circulate through those,
Do all three.
Entering someone else's world,
Getting someone else's wisdom,
It triggers your imagination,
It helps you process emotions,
It helps you find the right words for your experience so you understand your own experience.
It lets you know how others deal with suffering.
It normalizes certain experiences that may seem bizarre to you.
It gives you a very talented,
Intelligent person's thoughts on life.
Read literature.
I don't recommend reading like beach reads.
If it kind of fills you with life,
It's also a good choice,
But add some complicated texts.
Add some texts that aren't easy to understand,
And it gives your mind space to put puzzles together.
Read texts that widen your vocabulary,
That expose you to ideas you wouldn't otherwise have.
Read texts from foreign authors.
Read texts from a thousand years ago.
Read a variety of literature.
It doesn't always need to be today's top 10 New York Times bestsellers.
Read texts that your ancestors read,
And read texts from men,
Read texts from women,
Read texts from Asia,
Read texts from India,
Read texts from every part of the world.
But don't only read texts that are popular now.
If you only read the things other people read,
You will only have the ideas that other people have.
You want to expand and grow your mind,
And the easiest,
The least expensive way to do that is to give yourself time to read.
