On the second day of our search for the meaning of life, we explore the importance of inspiration through a story about one of the great comedy directors who changed the face of comedy for good. And we talk about the most fatal mistake most people make that gets in their way of living a life of their choosing.

Hello and welcome back to Unleash Your Peace.
My name is Ellie Shoja.
I am your host.
I'm a positive mindset coach,
A personal transformation expert.
I'm a peace trainer and a deliberate creator.
Yes,
I snuck that title in.
So I realized last week that this podcast is essentially a peace training podcast because every single week we pick a different topic about the internal world and we dive right into it.
We take five episodes,
We release them Monday through Friday.
We go deeper and deeper into that topic every single week.
Now the whole goal of doing that is to help you shed some of that unwanted pain that you've been carrying around with you so that you can tap into lasting internal peace and live your best life yet.
That's exactly what we do when we live from a place of joy,
Peace and connectedness to our source.
That's what we do.
We live our best lives because our lives don't just incrementally improve.
Every aspect of our experiences on this physical plane just levels up.
And when you do that,
You cannot help but to become a positive force in your family,
In your own community and that's how we level up as a society.
So this week's topic is a really exciting one and it's one that I think a lot of people struggle with.
So I hope you're enjoying it.
I hope you enjoyed yesterday's episode.
And the topic we have here is your life's purpose.
Is there something you're here to do?
Why does it feel like there is something that you're supposed to do in this life?
And if there is,
Why does life always have a way of getting in the way of it?
So in my opinion,
We don't actually have one life purpose.
There's not one thing we came to do and when we do that thing,
We're going to feel fulfilled.
Our life purpose actually evolves as we do.
It expands as we do.
It is a moving target because we're never standing still.
We're constantly evolving and growing and changing.
So our life purpose will evolve and change with us.
For that to happen,
However,
We need to kind of shift our gears.
I think a lot of people have trouble finding their life purpose because they are looking outside of themselves for it.
So yesterday we talked a little bit about inspiration and all I wanted was for you to start thinking about all these really weird unconventional jobs that people create for themselves because they live from an inspired place.
So they'll have a really crazy idea in one moment and then they just kind of start following the yellow brick road of it just step by step and before they know it,
They're living a life that is so full of everything that they love,
They couldn't even have imagined it that perfect,
That complete.
Now I want to give you an example of a close friend of mine who is just this really incredible human being who inspires me every single day.
This gentleman's name is David Zucker.
You probably know him as the director of movies like Airplane and the Naked Gun franchise.
He and his brother Jerry and their friend Jim Abrams,
They literally created an entire genre of comedy when they wrote and directed Airplane in 1980.
The really cool thing about David is that his story really speaks about this journey of inspiration.
He had just graduated college and his brother Jerry still had a year left at the university and he goes to a party and at this party,
People are performing this theater type thing.
In that moment,
He had this very clear vision.
He said to himself,
I can do this really funny and he drove straight to Jerry's dorm room and knocked on his door and said,
I have an idea.
They recruited their childhood friend,
Jim Abrams,
Who was a few years older than them and they started the Kentucky Fright Theater right on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.
I think they charged a dollar an entry and they had video and they had skits and it became so popular that they were able to during that year really fine tune their act.
And the following year when Jerry was out of college,
They decided to move to Los Angeles and they start Kentucky Fright Theater right here in LA.
So that's inspiration number one.
Then they're watching this movie called Zero Hour and they would do spoofs on these movies and they have this brilliant idea of doing a spoof of this movie and it turns into Airplane.
So that's inspiration number two and we all know what happened to Airplane.
It became a huge sensation if you don't know.
And here's another super cool part about the story,
Kentucky Fright Theater became so popular that people from the industry would go and see it and Lorne Michaels takes an NBC executive to one of their shows and as they are sitting in the audience,
He says,
I want to do this on television.
And that's when Saturday Night Live was born.
If we go back to that initial moment of inspiration that David had in that little apartment,
This 20 or 21 year old kid who just graduated from college and didn't know what to do with his life,
This moment of inspiration that he had,
If he had ignored it,
If he hadn't done anything with it,
If he had talked himself out of it,
Not only would we not have one of the greatest comedies ever made,
Airplane is always in the top five,
We would also not have Saturday Night Live.
So when you ignore your intuition,
Your inspiration,
The great idea that comes to you,
When you ignore it and you think,
Oh my gosh,
I don't know how to do that,
It's too big for me,
Who am I to go after this?
There are a thousand people better qualified than I am to do this work.
When you do this,
You could be costing the world something as spectacular as a whole new genre in comedy and a whole new way of doing sketch comedy on television.
I'm just saying.
Now that we've established how important it is to follow that inspiration,
To actually listen to it,
Let's talk about some of the mistakes people make,
Some of the ways people talk themselves out of partaking in action towards that inspiration.
Now when you're inspired to do something,
When you have a vision,
When you have an idea,
What is actually happening is that you received inspired knowledge and I call it knowledge because it is so much larger than the idea that you have.
It is a giant block of information.
It's like that big block of gold that I talked to you about in the last episode.
So you just have this big block of potential.
You turn that potential into whatever idea makes sense in your life with your capabilities.
So what does that mean?
That means there's never an idea that is too big for you to accomplish.
It means if you are seeing yourself standing in front of 10,
000 people and giving a talk,
That idea is not too big because otherwise you wouldn't have thought it.
If it's a million people,
It's still not too big because otherwise you would not have thought it.
You literally would not have translated it into that idea.
So for me,
For example,
I am not going to have this vision of standing in front of a huge group of people and playing a concert piano because that's not my dream and it's not my dream because I don't have that talent.
I do,
However,
Have a vision of publishing books,
Of speaking to you on the topics of peace.
And this is my path.
This is what I do.
Words are what I do and my visions surround words.
So in this episode,
I just want to talk to you about the biggest thing that people do to get in their own ways.
And that is they never ask themselves the question.
They never ask themselves,
What would I rather do?
What brings me joy?
What is it that I'm here for?
What vision do I have?
They never allow themselves to have that vision.
Now,
If you really believe that your visions are never too big for you,
Would you not allow yourself to dream?
If you are waiting for permission to dream,
I want to give you that permission.
First of all,
You don't need permission,
But if you're waiting for it,
If you need it,
I'm giving you permission.
Dream because that is your right.
Dream because that is what you are made for.
Dream because you are powerful beyond your imagination and dream because if you don't dream,
You're never going to really truly know how powerful you actually are.
So your homework for today is to sit down and ask yourself that question.
What do I want?
Where do I want to go?
Who do I want to be?
What do I want to do in this life?
Where do I see myself?
And don't put any limits on this.
Don't get in your own way.
Ask yourself the question.
Sit still until the answer comes to you and then write it down.
And tomorrow we'll come back and we'll dig even a little bit more deeper into this.
