A jar full of friends.
Shy Bunny lies on his back looking up at the bright evening sky.
One by one stars are starting to twinkle up high.
He sits up and rests his head on his hand.
I wish I had someone to play with.
He sighs.
One of the little stars winks at him.
Or does he?
Hello little star.
No answer.
Pfff,
What's the point?
Shy Bunny says to himself as he looks down at the grass.
Now I just feel embarrassed.
Suddenly something tugs at his fluffy white tail.
He jumps up.
It's a little star right behind him.
Hello Shy Bunny,
The little star twinkles.
I want to be your friend.
My friend?
Really?
Shy Bunny cannot believe his ears.
A friend!
Yes Shy Bunny.
Not only me,
The others too.
The little star points to the sky.
Just then another and then another star lands next to him until there is a whole bunch of them.
Shy Bunny is so happy.
He hops up and down with joy and runs around in circles.
Yippee!
He shouts again and again.
Yippee!
Little bits of grass and leaves scatter in all directions.
The stars twinkle and splutter and start hovering towards the sky.
Wait!
I'm sorry!
Shy Bunny says and stops hopping and running.
Please don't go.
Stay and be my friends forever.
We cannot stay that long,
They reply as they settle next to him again.
When the sun comes up,
We have to be back in the sky.
Yes we do,
Another star exclaims.
If the sun catches us down here,
We will be turned to stardust.
Can you come back again tomorrow night?
Bunny asks shyly.
Yes,
Replies one of the biggest stars.
There is however one condition.
Tell me,
Tell me,
Tell me please,
Please tell me.
Bunny holds his breath in anticipation.
You have to have fun every night,
The smallest star giggles and twinkles.
I will,
I promise to have fun.
Let's play,
Says Bunny,
Braver than before.
We can play hide and seek,
He yells over his shoulder as he fetches his fishing net and a glass jar.
The stars love this game.
They twinkle and giggle as shy Bunny catches them and puts them in his jar.
Long before the sun comes up,
He opens the jar so they can go back home.
Thank you for playing with me.
See you tomorrow night,
He calls out to them and waves as they leave.
Of course,
They giggle and twinkle and swoosh past his long ears.
We're your friends now.
Not so shy Bunny goes back to his house with a happy heart.
He no longer feels lonesome at all.
He crawls into his cozy little bed to sleep the day away.
Tomorrow night my friends and I will have a twinkle party,
He thinks dreamily.
As the sun rises over his little house,
He falls fast asleep.
