Fountaine and the Fairy Babies Spring has come to the forest where Fountaine Fox lives.
In a magical tree in the middle of the forest,
The fairy babies are being born.
It's the busiest time of the year for Fountaine's fairy friends.
Can I help you?
Fountaine asks Daisy as she bustles about.
No thank you Fountaine,
Answers Daisy.
She adds flower petals to one pot and stirs another.
I'm very busy today.
I have to make enough nectar for all the new fairy babies.
It will be better if you go and play with your friends.
Fountaine's ears drop.
Alright,
I understand.
She sighs.
Her ears prick up when she spots Poppy.
Poppy buzzes around with a bucket full of nectar and an eye dropper.
She gently drips drops of nectar into every fairy baby's tiny mouth.
Can I help you?
She asks Poppy when she flits past.
Poppy is so busy she doesn't even hear her.
Fountaine's shoulders sag a little.
Then she sees Violet.
She is taking clean leaf blankets off her washing line.
Surely Violet will need some help?
Can I help you?
She asks Violet.
No thank you.
I'm almost done here,
Answers Violet.
I need to get these blankets folded and ready for Lily.
She will be bringing me the dirty leaf blankets to wash soon.
Why don't you go and play?
Fountaine shrugs.
She drags her feet as she walks away.
She sees Lily gently rocking a fairy baby.
She sings while she rubs the fairy baby's back.
Can I help you?
She whispers.
She is careful not to wake the sleepy fairy baby in Lily's arms.
Lily shakes her head and continues to sing.
Fountaine sighs again and turns away.
Nobody wants my help.
They don't think that I can take care of the fairy babies.
But I can.
I just know it.
She walks away from the hustle and bustle in and around the magical tree.
Oops!
Fountaine almost stumbles.
She looks down to discover three of the fairy babies.
Someone has left them lying in a little grass nest.
She bends down to have a closer look.
They are just starting to get a little fidgety but otherwise they seem warmly dressed.
Their tummies are fat and full and the little boy has a smear of nectar at the corner of his tiny mouth.
Eeeee!
The little girl in pink flower petals lets out a soft wail.
Hush little girl!
Fountaine shushes her and gently tucks her leaf blanket around her.
Then she has an idea.
Would you like to see something funny?
Fountaine asks the fairy babies.
She takes two steps away to give herself room to move.
Then she starts spinning in circles as she tries to catch her bushy tail.
She stops when she hears a sound coming from the grass nest.
She looks up.
Two of the fairy babies are chuckling at her.
The girl in lavender petals looks at her eyes wide in wonderment.
Encouraged,
She thinks of another trick to entertain her tiny friends.
You think that was funny?
Watch this!
Fountaine grabs three pine cones from under a nearby tree and starts to juggle.
She hears the fairy babies giggle softly.
Then she looks their way and one of the pine cones lands on her head.
Tee hee hee!
Laughs the little boy dressed in blue.
Oh you think that was funny,
Hey?
Fountaine giggles and rushes over to the fairy babies.
She gently tickles their bellies until they are all squirming with laughter.
Then the little lavender girl gives a big yawn.
Ahhhhh!
The boy joins her and the pink girl starts rubbing her eyes.
You must be tired,
Fountaine says gently.
Don't worry,
I will look after you while you nap.
She calls her bushy tail around the three fairy babies and they drift off to sleep.
Oh thank goodness exclaims Poppy when she finds Fountaine called around the three sleeping babies.
I found them,
She calls to her fairy friends behind her.
Daisy,
Violet and Lily rush over to join them.
Thank you for looking after these fairy babies,
Fountaine,
Poppy says relieved.
I was supposed to give them to Lily after feeding them.
I was supposed to fetch them from you,
Adds Lily.
I thought that I had lost them.
It doesn't matter who was supposed to do what,
Laughs Daisy.
The important thing is that the fairy babies are safe.
Thanks to Fountaine,
Violet adds with a wink.
You're welcome,
Answers Fountaine shyly.
She carefully uncalls her tail from around the fairy babies.
Poppy,
Lily and Violet each take a fairy baby up into the magical tree.
They hang them in the branches from the tips of their leaf hats where they will be safe.
Daisy smiles at Fountaine.
So,
Would you like to help me make nectar tomorrow?
She asks.
For sure,
I would love to help.
Fountaine squares her shoulders and her chest puffs out a little bit.
It feels good to help her friends.
