Many years ago,
When I was younger,
I remember asking my grandad a question.
The world felt confusing to me,
Chaotic,
And I said to him,
Grandad,
What do we do when the world feels like this?
He didn't pause for long.
He simply said,
We look for the good people,
Son.
At the time,
It sounded almost too simple.
But the older I get,
The more I realise how wise those words were.
Because if you turn on the news,
Or scroll through social media,
It can sometimes feel like the world is full of conflict,
Anger,
Division.
Bad news travels fast.
Outrage gets attention.
And the good things?
The quiet kindness,
The decent people,
Often don't make the headlines.
But they are there.
They always have been.
The neighbour who checks in on someone who lives alone.
The stranger who holds the door.
The friend who sends a message just to say,
I was thinking of you.
Good people quietly helping other people through the day.
And when the world feels heavy,
When things seem uncertain,
We can remember that simple piece of advice.
Look for the good people.
Notice them.
Because when we start looking for kindness,
We begin to see it everywhere.
And something else begins to happen too.
It reminds us that the world isn't held together by the loudest voices,
Or the darkest stories.
It's held together by ordinary people,
Quietly choosing to be kind.
And perhaps the most comforting thought of all is this.
We can be one of them.
A kind word.
A small gesture.
A moment of patience.
These small things may seem insignificant.
But they ripple further than we ever know.
So if today feels a little noisy,
Or overwhelming,
Take a breath and remember my grandad's words.
Look for the good people.
They are out there.
