Welcome everybody into this session with a special Tarot reading this Monday.
So as you know here on Insight Timer there's been a bit of a focus since we had Earth Day last week and there's this eco-anxiety challenge and a bit of a focus on our relationship with the Earth.
So I thought we might play with that or more deeply reflect on that with our reading today with the cards.
So that's what we'll do today and I'll talk you through the spread in a minute.

Okay so I'll start to talk you through our spread for this week so as I mentioned it's slightly different today,
We're exploring our relationship with the Earth so it's not so much a reading for the week ahead although of course these energies might be around in your week anyway as an opportunity to explore how we relate to the Earth and I'll talk you through the spread,
It is very anthropocentric so you know very much focused on us as humans in relationship with the Earth and so I hope you'll forgive that or the Earth will forgive that but it's really to help us to look into that relationship,
To go into that relationship.
So here in the centre there are two positions,
I thought green and blue for the magnets for those and so we have the planet and we have the being so Earth as a planet and Earth as a being,
A living being so for some people we can conceive of the Earth as not only being a place but as someone,
Something,
A being which is alive and actually which we're all part of so the way I like to think of this is that you know we have all the different cells in our body work on an individual level and they all think that they're individuals and yet they make up together a person,
A being and I often think that that's similar you know we all think we're individuals,
We think that our species is different from other species and yet together if you zoom out,
If you have perspective you see that we are all part of one being so Earth as a being and also being that we're all part of not separate from us and then Earth as a planet as a place so these are the central positions because this is what our reading is about,
It's in the centre.
Then we have,
I've gone for two sort of themes around this so one is responsibility and this is about what is happening and the other is about agency so you know what can we do with what is happening.
So on the responsibility side we have structures so firstly structures is about our societal structures really,
How do we structure our society and how does that affect the Earth and our relationship with the Earth.
Then in the middle we have climate change so it's real,
We'll take that as a starting point but you know what about climate change do we really need to focus on at the moment and then at the bottom we have individuals so you know responsibility in terms of how our human societies are structured and then responsibilities as individuals you know what is our responsibility and all in relation to this climate change or climate crisis that we do seem to be living through at the moment.
And then on the other side agency so this is more you know what can we do and it's really hard isn't it to present solutions to what's going on to how we may have caused harm in our relationship to the planet and you know I certainly don't know what we can do but the cards might give us some insight into that so firstly what can we as humans do,
What can we do all together as humans.
Secondly what can this community do so this insight time of community and this community of people that are here today and then finally me and you so what can we we had individuals on this side this is really about me and you what can what can we each do in terms of gaining our agency around our relationship with the planet and taking the responsibility so that is spread and we'll start drawing cards shortly.
So I'm just noticing a couple of comments someone was asking for a recommendation for full moon meditation I've got 5,
10 and 20 minute full moon meditations on my profile so I do go in there and if you join my circle then I will share them in there as well after the reading.
And the other thing I know some people are having trouble seeing and hearing so you may not hear me say this but sometimes actually either restarting or updating the app sometimes when the app has an update that you've not installed yet that can cause problems with it so I hope those people can get in I'm just going to set that intention there and put the energy there that those people who need to be in this reading want to be in this reading can get in here.
Okay so we'll go into our reading I shall just pause for a sip of tea I've got a lovely herbal tea here with me this afternoon and that is the earth sustaining me for this reading.
So I'll invite you to take a deep breath and allow your attention to go inwards find your centre and then just also send your attention down to your feet or your seat whatever parts of your body are supported by the earth or something that's in contact with the earth so you don't have to be in direct contact with earth earth here we are all actually living our lives within the energy field of earth so just bringing your awareness to that fact inviting the earth energy into your body allowing your energy to be connected with the energy of the earth and then just setting your intention to receive what you need today and also we might add to that intention that whatever comes of this reading whatever cards come up that they are beneficial to the for the highest good of our planet of the earth I can really feel a lot of a lot of energy here today so I feel like we're going to have a powerful reading today so the deck I'm using today is the Tower of the Moors and and let's put some cards out so the first two are drawn together so the first one is earth as planet and we have the Malik of Swords or the King of Swords and the second is earth as being and we have the Seven of Cups so that's an interesting pairing there so earth as planets so I already talked a little bit about our tendency to think of the earth as a place where we are that we're maybe a bit separate from that sometimes comes up in swords a little bit of sort of intellectual distance and so that that tendency to think of the earth as a planet maybe a swords trait and then we have a cups card for the earth as a being so this is about heart connection when we have that perspective as the earth as something living as well as just a place so as a pairing then we have we have sort of clarity of vision and very intellectual vision and then and then we have the Seven of Cups which is sometimes about sort of illusion or or miss seeing misunderstanding but also it's cups it's about the heart so what we have here is that in our relationship with the earth in our conception of what the earth is we sort of we have we may have very different perspectives in head and heart and I get the feeling that that in this pairing is the message that that's okay you know that we things don't have to be one or the other doesn't have to be head or heart it doesn't have to be place or being it can be both so I think we have an invitation here to embrace both and that perhaps will bring us more depth in our relationship and so the the Malik of Swords the King of Swords as well very much about air we have this this bird here a bird of prey so a reminder perhaps that of also relationship with the other beings on this planet such as the birds and and of our tendency perhaps to what to build relationships with them I was going to say to tame them but actually you know sometimes we tame sometimes we destroy sometimes we form lifelong companionships with with other animals who share this planet with us sometimes we create spaces where they're they're protected so it's it's there are all kinds of different relationships with other beings on this planet as well as the planet so so what we might think about then is our relationship with the earth through other beings who are also related to the earth and then the earth as being so the earth is a living breathing existing being we have the seven of cuts and and I think I'm reminded here of actually one of the the sort of major anthropomorphic assignations that we sometimes give to the earth as we say mother earth and I'm just going to drop this in here that sometimes you know societally we have a lot of expectations on mothers to give and we don't necessarily give them a lot of support and so when we think of the earth as a mother it may be that we are expecting her to give give give and we're not actually creating a community of support to support her in that and I wonder if that is the illusion that is in our conception of planet as being and you know if we can reach into that and find the cuts find the heart meaning in that what would that be you know what's the true essence and and what can we how can we find the true essence in our personification of earth as mother earth without perhaps bringing all of our other things are you know all the stuff that we create in society to that relationship so so where can we find the real meaningful cup in that.
So I'll put those there in the center for our our understanding of the earth at the moment and then we'll go into responsibility so this side these three are about what is actually happening at the moment and all of these are within our area of responsibility in some way or another so firstly structure so this is about human structures and and so this might be about so you know infrastructure the the things that we build but it's also about what we what we build inside of ourselves as well our hearts and minds and our collective consciousness and unconscious so all the structures that we have and how do they affect our relationship with the earth and okay so we've got the princess of disks so firstly disks pentacles and in some decks is about is the suit of earth and so possibly this and it's about material things and also of course about money so there's a very obvious reading which wouldn't be news to anyone here I don't think about our material natures or our sort of the way our structures are created around material gain and and when I say gain it's gain for us rather than gain for the being of the planet and the other beings on the planet when our structures are built around this materialism then of course that affects our relationship with the planet and so again a small mention reciprocity in the comments a moment ago you know how can we how can we make that more reciprocal and also it's a princess which is also a page in some decks so so this is the this is childlike so you know we had a we talked about mother earth here in the seven of cups and here we have a childlike attitude so again that sort of expectation that the earth will just provide for us and and we don't have to do anything we don't have to be responsible adults because we are we are children of the earth and you know how do we how do we take that and how do we take the how do we take the wonder of the childlike energy actually of the princess and the page and put that back into our structures because maybe the what's part of the problem can also be part of the solution so you know if we can take the positive aspects of the princess of disks and become embodied in ourselves become grounded in the earth and take that that childlike wonder that children so often have then then maybe we can change the way that we build our structures and I did choose the red magnet because red is a protective color as well so I had two red magnets and I decided to put them in the two positions on the board which might need the most protection which is our structures and climate change so climate change quite a big a big topic to have as a position for in the spread let's see what the cards have for us there oh wow this is the eight of disks so firstly it's just a beautiful card it's more pentacles so we've got you know more sort of earth energy there so the eight of disks can be about things progressing slowly but surely and so we can read this in two ways we could read this in terms of you know this climate change is happening and every single day something happens which takes it further and so that you know there's sadness in that reading I'm trying to stay in my pentacles embodied as giving this reading because there's a lot of of sadness in that and also with that that reading that understanding that every day takes us a little further every day we have the opportunity to start to if not move things in a different direction slow the progress at least and so this isn't something that's happening suddenly this is something that's been happening for a long time and you know I remember it being talked about in my my childhood I'm 38 now and I know that you know we look at the future and we look in in tens of years at the same time there has been massive change in just a handful of years as well again this is something that that I see in my in my local area we have a lot more forest fires these days but what we have here is that you know this is a slow progress this is definitely progressing and we have the option you know we might not be able to go back and and that is a collective grief that I think we're all experiencing at the moment but we may be able to to slow this or stop this or change the direction and Virginia as you so nicely put it every single day is an opportunity because everything we do every day has an impact that gives us some agency to to do something every day and also that you know it's a collection of seemingly small things which have got us here and so it may be a common accumulation of seemingly small things that that affects where we go from here as well.
And so we've looked at structures we looked at climate change as as as it is as a as a concept as an occurrence and then individuals you know so on a structural level this is what's happening here with the the princess of disks and and so individuals and as individuals you know we do all have this responsibility it can feel that we are stuck within the structures we live in and you know to some extent that's true and to some extent we have the ability to change those structures as well so it's you know we do have responsibilities as individuals individual responsibility isn't going to take it all the way we need to do something around our structures as well so what as individuals can help us in our relationship with the with the earth and it's the six of swords so we're going back to swords now and and so I see this as a as a well I see lots of things in this I see this as a firstly a spiritual connection so the six of swords can be about traveling between between places or between states so sometimes it's about I see this in the in this practice of journeying where we we sort of get in touch with the energetic reality so there's a spiritual practice here and that may be connected to we've got the the Malika swords the king of swords here in the center so you know we can connect with those swords if we if we need to there's yeah there's there's so there's this possibility to sort of have an individual spiritual practice I know people who have worked with with refugees and seen this boat as a as a refugee boat so you know remembering that that what happens to the planet happens to individuals as well that we could all be in that boat one day so taking that as a very strong motivation that you know this this could be us as well so so staying motivated and this is the strangest reading I've ever done I'm feeling all sorts of sort of emotions as the cards come through and you know processing where we're at in reality and you know sometimes there's guidance in the six of swords so you know who's guiding this boat and what direction are they going in so there are those two sayings aren't there that we're in the same boat and actually we're not in the same boat but we are in the same old store so how do you direct your boat your individual boat and and you know is it is it safer to travel in a fleet or or to go your own way on a boat I was think it would be safer in a fleet because you have support around you but it's about direction you know how do we direct where do we want to go next and then one of the keywords for the six of swords is transition so you know I know there's a movement of transition towns how do we transition actually from the way we live which is not sustainable it simply isn't to a way that is sustainable and and this is a question which this card has for us and something that we can that we can do on an individual level you know how can we each transition in a more sustainable way and and and I think there really is something about are you in a boat on your own or in a fleet because this is something that yes we can all take responsibility for and it's more powerful if we do it together.
So this is the side of responsibility and then on the other side we have agency so these three positions of you know where does our agency really lie so we know we know that we are where we are now today and and we we have some agency and how do we find our agency so agency is us humans all of us let's start with that.
Okay this is the fall the juggler in in this deck so the fall this is the first major arcana card that we've had and and the fall is a it's card zero in the major arcana so so one of the key things about the fall is that the fall can come up at any point in the journey so that the fall has the power to connect with any of the other archetypes in the major arcana at any time without having to go through a sequence without having to do things one at a time and so in terms of agency the fall has a lot of agency and the fall needs more the fall has resources of courage the fall is courageous the fall has resources of trust the the full trusts so you know we do need courage we need trust or or would that be faith and and we need to to take a leap so the fall is you can just see at the bottom here this cliff edge so very frightening and you know seeing as we it going off the cliff or close to the cliff anyway what can we do with our agency to make that a safe fall we are you know how can we make that a shortfall and not a long fall so we have an opportunity in the fall to start everything over big change big change so you know stepping out of the comfort zone and we we have we do have this opportunity to do that it takes courage it takes faith and it takes integrity as well there's a little a little dog here which is a fool's little dog which I often read as loyalty but I see that today as integrity so you know taking our integrity with us so and of course we have been foolish and so one of the lessons that we have to learn is our own foolishness so so really remembering that this agency I think the message of this fall the main message of this fall is remembering that this agency it does belong to us we can intervene at any point we can make something different happen at any point and and you know this being in the position of us us humans us together you know it this may be something that we have to do together and we all have to get on board and those of us who have more resources available may need to work harder may need to do more and you know may have more to to give up as well because there's a big change that that is within our agency within our possibility so and of course the fall takes resources with them and also has to leave a lot behind when you make a leap like the fall you can't go laden with a lot of stuff so we have that agency we have the ability to make a big change whenever we want to it can be today it can be tomorrow it can be at any point so so it's I see that as a hopeful card that you know we can always start over and and you know some of this may have to may have to change but we can always start over this community then is this specific community the people who are here in this reading today and our insight time and community when I do readings about community I always like to include our our community in that because I think there is power amongst us and between us and how we we come together I know it I know it from the energy that that I experience and that the amazing conversations that I have the honor of being being part of so yeah this community where does our agency lie oh we've got the eight of cups so that I've got shivers now with that this is one of the minor on corner cards that you can associate with the fall again you've got this kind of edge here I don't think this is a cliff edge I think this is more of an edge between light and shadow the eight of cups is is traditionally about walking away but one of the ways I like to look at it is as well as walking away we've got walking on your path so staying on the right path staying on our right path and that's something that we can do amongst ourselves to keep ourselves on that you know we have that support honoring our emotions and then choosing which of those we're going to take with us and which to let go so Elena you mentioned guilt now guilt is like all emotions you know it's useful it's useful if it helps us to change our behavior if it's not going to help us to change our behavior and it's actually immobilizing for us and I know that's some certainly something I've experienced in terms of our planet and what's going on then it no longer becomes useful so so we might need to to let go of anything that is emotionally stopping us Marissa you say the eight of cups is integrity to you as well so we've got our integrity and again you know we are a community we can hold each other to our our own standards of integrity and you know sometimes we will all have good days and bad days but because we have this wonderful community where we are in touch with each other and we can support each other and I see so much support going on in this community you know that is a real resource that we can use and should we choose that you know we want to do a little bit more to make a change we've got the eight over here as well the eight of disks that card of doing a little bit regularly and having having a large impact with that with that little bit as a community we can choose to help each other to do a little bit more each day and then in this card not in all eight eight of cups but in this card in this tower of the moors you've got a well here well you've got this massive I think that's Saturn isn't it Saturn is the the planet of again this this change you know it's changed Saturn the astrological symbol looks like a scythe and it's about cutting away pruning what's no longer necessary and then we have a well here in this card and the well is there for us to drink from when we need to so another thing that this community might do is that when we as individuals as a collective of humans make change or you know even if we're not making change even if we are just experiencing those emotions helpful or not we are here as a community to be the well from which each of us can drink and take our turn to drink so that we we actually have this community as a resource for us and that we can support each other and and that we can all support those who are who are whose whose work is is about making the change on our planet.
Marisi say choosing what's true I was just gonna put that one back there choosing what's true over what is easy yes and I think that you know is has to be part of our part of our reading if we're really going to listen to what is happening in our relationship with the earth we have to choose what's true over what's easy and and you know I don't know how we're going to do that yet but we'll choose to have faith that we can and so the final card in this reading just to sort of put it all together and perhaps give us each an action or something that we can take away and and use perhaps as a you know as our eight of pentacles work in terms of making something that we can take a step towards regularly.
This card is the the four of wands look at that so so this position of of me and you what can we each do and then the four of wands I always always see as people coming together in community so it's a kind of celebration you see this sort of canopy up there and I always see it about as being about celebrations that are recognized by the whole community in which the individual is is found so the what the four of wands might be telling us here in terms of how we can use our agency me and you is that actually maybe we do need to reach out to each other a bit more to recognize as a community all the things all the things which are actually really hard to recognize as we as we go through this process of both collective grief and you know the hope for an amelioration of of what's happening but actually as a community by recognizing this together we can start to to to make those changes so this might be about you know again that support within our community it might also be about changing what is recognized by the communities that we're all in so you know unfortunately and I don't even know how this how this is the case but you know some people are still pretending that either climate change isn't happening or that it doesn't matter or that that it's not a threat in some way all of those things and so we in our structures in our societies wherever you're from in the world you know we have work to do about making sure that actually everybody is on the same page and you know this is this is real this is where we're at it's it's not pleasant shall we say you know it's it's a very scary thing we have we have all the feelings that the fool has on being on the edge of that cliff and and yet as as a community as as humans we do have agency and the only way that we're going to come together and use that agency is by making sure everybody recognizes that that climate change is real and and that you know the also that this is you know to think and through the centricly it is us that are going to be affected by this we and we're taking a lot of the other beings on the planet with us but eventually you know the planet will will live on without us but how long do we choose to live in in relationship with this planet as as a as humanity so so that is possibly something that we we can do is to is to make sure that that the emergency that we're actually in is firstly recognized by everyone and then leastly say perhaps to seek out in the community where individuals making efforts to support them to add to their power and yes absolutely that is something that we can do and Becky say empowering the young people to get involved I think the the young people are doing an amazing job when I was in my well you know childhood teens we knew that something was happening but there wasn't so much of a movement as there is now and I see people who are in their teens their early 20s even very you know younger children and they are out there demanding their future basically and and so you know yes absolutely let's empower empower those people empower all of the people who are involved who are who are working towards our better future for all of us so there we go that's our reading wow yeah there's a lot in there there's this yeah that's all I can say really there really is a lot in there I will summarize it in a moment I think I might just have another sip planet and as being and remember that we're not on our own on this planet we there are other animals here with us or the beings here with us oh Virginia thank you and that the we have this conception of Earth as Mother Earth that's that's the most common personification of Earth that we come up with and that perhaps we don't always necessarily treat mothers in a in a in a way that's supportive and perhaps this has affected our psyche in terms of how we treat the Earth as well so you know in that seven of cups we can find that essence you know what is the true cup what is the true and powerful meaning behind our personification of Earth as Mother Earth and can we just get rid of all the stuff that that isn't so helpful there and then you know yes we can think of our planet as a place as as a collection of organisms however we do and that that heart and mind they don't have to be separate we can have this there can be both you know we can live on the planet and we can recognize the planet as a being who has who deserves as much as as any of us allow to ourselves as well and the cards Keshla are the Malik or king of swords in planets and the seven of cups in being and then on this side we have responsibilities so our responsibility our structures are physical and societal structures climate change responsibility for that and our responsibility as individuals and we see that our structures may have again it's that relationship when we see ourselves as children of the Earth we perhaps don't take responsibility for ourselves as adults and that you know maybe humans are adults as you know the human race is is an adult race and and we we don't need to be in this childlike expecting to be supported without taking responsibility all the time and then how we might help our structures is by being embodied and to find the to think like a child you know where is this the or the wonder of children in connection with the Earth and and of course the disks the pentacles are the suit of Earth but they're also can be about the materials so you know we know it's not news to anyone here that the way our societies and the way our material resources are organized at the moment is all about materialism is about putting money first I don't think that's that's news to anyone and perhaps perhaps that is part of or a major part of the problem climate change we had the aid of disks or aid of pentacles so you know a reminder that we have this is happening it's happening every day and every day it progresses a little more and in terms of of you know how can we take our responsibility in that is that we can also do something every day and in fact we have an opportunity every day to to change the course so we may not be able to reverse climate change but we can change the way that it progresses and we can do that with little things as well as the big things and we can do that every single day and then us as individuals you know where does our responsibility lie and and it's about transition you know there is transition needed and and we'll see that in the in the next card as well in fact you know the fool us humans it whereas our agency the fool we have we have the power to intervene to make a change at any time so so looking at these two together the the fool and and the six of swords there is that we we actually you know we have the responsibility to to transition to make big changes and and we have the agency to do it we this is the only major arcana in the spread the fall here in this agency of us humans as as a collective of of beings as as a as a race of of people and and and we we have this opportunity to to make a change at any time and you know there is courage needed there's faith needed there will inevitably be a transformation that happens as part of that so but it's there it's available to us and we can do that at any time you know on any day as we said in the eight of disks this community we've got the eight of cups so a reminder of that eight of disks you know there's sort of day to day and actually we can support each other we can be the well from which we we we draw support and we offer support to each other and then we had more community stuff in me and you what can each of us as individuals do you know if we're going to make one change in our individual lives coming away from this reading what would that be and and it is it's about coming together so you know we can support each other emotionally particularly in this community we can support those in our communities who are um who are actually you know really really working towards this um a better a better world towards protecting our planet towards creating a better relationship with the earth and and we can make sure that everyone in our communities recognizes the reality of of what's happening so you know there is a call here as well to get a bit political and and you know make sure that um that for a very very basic start and i honestly don't know how how we as fools are not um are not there already but that everyone acknowledges what is happening so that we can get to that point where we can make the change together so there's the summary i'm going to take a deep breath now i invite you to as well i feel inspired to send gratitude to the earth in this moment and to to remember that we we are in relationship with the earth the earth is a being and we're in relationship with this being and that's the reading thank you very much for being here thank you so much to those of you who have donated that helps to keep
