Hello.
It's been a long,
Tiring day and now it's time to settle down and get ready to sleep.
By now you'll have brushed your teeth and maybe you'll have put on your pajamas.
And I want you to imagine that your pajamas are magic pajamas.
They feel so soft and warm and cosy.
And your magic pajamas are going to take you all through the night sleeping soundly,
Having lovely dreams.
So just before you get into bed,
Just notice your pajamas.
They might be the real pajamas that you've got on,
Or they might be pajamas that you would like to have.
But just notice what colour they are.
Maybe your very favourite colour,
Or different colours,
Or perhaps they've got pictures of some of your favourite things on.
Just feel how warm and soft and cosy your pajamas make you feel.
And then settle down,
Getting into bed,
Pulling the covers up,
And just taking a nice deep breath.
Can you feel how your breath goes up through your nose?
Nice deep breath.
Then let it out slowly.
Out through your mouth.
Maybe you have a special toy,
A special teddy or bunny or another kind of toy that always comes to bed with you.
And maybe just now you could put your special toy on your tummy.
And let's take some more nice deep breaths and see what happens to your special toy.
Shall we try?
Breathing in through your nose.
And out through your mouth.
Can you feel how your tummy goes up when you breathe in?
And down when you breathe out.
And your special toy feels nice and cosy on your tummy.
It likes to go up when you take an in-breath and down when you take an out-breath.
And now both of you are feeling calm and relaxed and ready to go to sleep.
And outside the beautiful night sky is all ready to help you to sleep.
There are millions of twinkling lights just above your head.
Twinkling stars out in the night sky.
And one very big twinkling star.
And that's the star that's going to look after you until the morning.
That beautiful bright star won't go away until the morning comes.
So gently,
If you're ready,
Just close your eyes.
And picture all those twinkling stars all over the night sky.
And I wonder if you have a thought or even a little worry about something that's gone on today.
I wonder if you could take a breath and blow that worry up towards one of the stars.
And just watch in your imagination as the star takes the worry away.
And maybe you have another little worry or another thought that might stop you going to sleep.
And let's do the same with that.
Take a deep breath.
And blow that worry away.
Watching as the twinkling star takes it from you.
And the light goes out.
And maybe you have some lovely thoughts of what's happened today.
Some thoughts that you'd like to remember.
You don't need to remember them now because now is the time for sleep.
So maybe you could send those good thoughts up to a different star.
Take a breath in.
And send that lovely thought up into the night sky.
And watch as one of the small twinkling stars catches hold of it.
And saves it for you until tomorrow.
And all the time the big bright star lights up the night sky.
Twinkling down looking after you so you don't have to worry about anything at all.
You can just feel your lovely warm safe bed.
You can feel your special magic pajamas against your skin.
Feeling warm and cosy and happy.
Remembering to take your nice breath in.
And blow it out ever so gently.
And then again.
Gently gently until you're almost asleep.
And you just notice again the big twinkling star looking down keeping you safe.
As you gently gently fall asleep.
