Hello and welcome.
My name is Nicho and this is the fourth meditation in our Lectio Divina,
Journey Through the Gospel of John.
In this passage,
Jesus speaks of divine trust,
Unity,
And surrender.
The Son does only what he sees the Father doing.
As you listen,
May these words gently invite you into deeper trust and awareness of God's movements in your life.
But first,
Let us begin with prayer.
Great Spirit,
We long to walk in step with your heart,
Quiet our striving.
Let us see what you are doing and move in harmony with your will.
As we listen,
May your words speak to the hidden places in us.
Amen.
I speak from my heart,
He said to them.
The Son only does what he sees the Father doing,
For the Father and the Son do the same things.
The Father loves the Son and shows him everything he does.
He will show him great and powerful medicine,
Things that will fill you with wonder.
You will see the Son give life to whoever he wants and bring the dead back to life again,
Just like the Father does.
The Father does not make the final decision about anyone.
He has given that decision to the Son.
He did this,
So all honor the Son in the same way they honor the Father.
The ones who do not honor the Son do not honor the Father who sent him.
I speak from my heart.
The ones who listen to me and trust the one who sent me have the life of the world to come that never fades away.
The final decision about their end has been made,
For they have already crossed over from death to life.
The time has now come when the ones who are spiritually dead will hear the voice of Creator's own Son,
And all who hear it will live,
Just as all life comes from the Father in the same way he has made all life come from the Son.
I speak from my heart.
The final decision about everyone has been given to the Son.
It is his because he is the true human being.
Do not look so surprised,
For the day is dawning when the dead and buried will hear his voice and come out of their graves.
The ones who have done good will rise to a new life,
But the ones who do what has no worth will rise to face the final decision about their end.
Let these words settle into you.
Do not try to understand them all at once.
Simply be with them.
Creator sets free,
Jesus said.
The Son can do nothing apart from the Father.
He watches the Father and does only what he sees him doing.
The Father shows the Son all things,
Even the raising of the dead.
The Son gives life to whomever he chooses,
Just as the Father does.
The Father has given judgment to the Son so that all may honor the Son as they honor the Father.
The one who listens and trusts in these words has crossed from death to life and will not be judged.
A time is coming,
And is now here,
When the dead will hear the voice of the Son of the Great Spirit and those who hear will live.
Where in your life is the Spirit asking you to watch and listen rather than to strive and push?
Can you let yourself receive?
Take this moment to speak to the one who is showing you the way.
Respond with your heart or simply rest in trust.
Loving Father,
You are always at work in the world.
Help us to see what you are doing and to move in harmony with you.
May our lives echo the life of the Son,
A life of trust,
Unity,
And gentle obedience.
Amen.
