Sound Bath Sessions 200: Alex Lo
Alex Lo is the founder of Scientific Singing Bowl. Alex's approach to sound healing is a more scientific approach to teaching singing bowls. A psychology major, he didn't connect with the spiritual side of sound baths, so he began learning how the different frequencies can affect human emotions. He is also a laughing yoga teacher in Hong Kong, holding public sessions at least once a month for kids, adults, the elderly, and the disabled. We recorded at his studio in San Po Kong, which is relatively quiet with little nearby construction. Despite his calculated approach to understanding his bowls, his style is improvised. He often plays with a bowl in his hand, which he strikes and then rotates in a circle up and down to make the sound more lively and dynamic. This 20-minute session was played with an abstract sequencing of lower notes and a very slow tempo. A very introspective track, I got lost in my thoughts when focusing on the sound of every single bowl he plays.
