I recorded Irene in a general-purpose room on the top floor of her apartment block near Xingfu station. The surroundings were very active with a lot of city sounds that echoed in the reflective room. Irene's bowls have a very interesting tone to them. Some of them have pure tones, and some are inherently dissonant between harmonics, resulting in amazing modulations just from one strike. And when paired with other bowls can start to change the shape of sound even more. I think it adds great interest to an otherwise flat-sounding session. Sound bath or sound art? This track was the best one of our sessions. The space was quiet, and her sound combinations were interesting, confident, and experimental. It checked all the boxes, loud and quiet, soft and hard, fast and slow, stationary and mobile. The tempo was more relaxed and very comfortable to connect to.
