Sound Bath Sessions 237: Fiona Pau
Fiona Pau was part of the last batch of people I recorded in HK before the end of summer 2025. We met at The Yoga Lane studio in the Sai Ying Pun area, where the city thickly folds down a steep slope. The studio is accessed via the public stairway beside the building. The half-basement space meant that we got the unique sounds of both the ambient sounds along the adjacent stairs as well as the deep double-thumps of passing vehicles within the space. As we started a bit after lunch, you can hear the noise grow during our recording session as the workers began their afternoon shift. Later on, when editing, I was surprised that the background noise complemented her sessions and only a little editing was necessary to preserve the mood and emotion. This short track is minimal with slow, isolated drones over a bed of distant construction. By now, the workers have all gotten back to work. I love the contrast of hard sounds under delicate tones.
