"The Silver Road" may symbolize a journey through a specific landscape or an internal journey of self-discovery or highlight the beauty of nature: Hendry's poetry often celebrates the natural world, so the "silver road" might be a metaphor for a path through a stunning natural setting. With exploration of themes of solitude and reflection the quiet and peaceful nature of a road can often be a setting for contemplation.

Transcript

Last night I saw a silver road go straight across the sea.

And quick as I raced along the shore,

That quick road followed me.

It followed me all around the bay,

Where small waves danced in tune.

And at the end of the silver road there hung a silver moon.

A large round moon on a pale green sky,

With a pathway bright and broad.

Some night I shall bring that silver moon across that silver road.
