The Rosary is a meditative prayer in the Roman Catholic tradition. Events in the life of Jesus are reflected upon during the mantra-like recitation of certain everyday prayers. Today we reflect on five such events in what is called the Five Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary.

Dear friends,
Welcome to part 3 of the Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
If you have not already been introduced to the prayer,
You may well ask what is the rosary?
The rosary is a mantra type prayer which provides time for reflection on events in the life of Jesus.
I offer it here not only for the benefit of listeners in the Roman Catholic tradition,
But for people of all faiths and none who might be interested in mindfully exploring these events.

You might like to refer to my talk here on Insight Timer entitled Introduction to the Rosary in the Roman Catholic Tradition.
Here in part 3 of the rosary we will reflect on what are called the five glorious mysteries.
By tradition,
The glorious mysteries are prayed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
The rosary begins with the sign of the cross,
Which is followed by the Lord's Prayer,
The Hail Mary repeated three times,
An opening invocation and the Deloria.
The five mysteries are then contemplated in turn during the recitation of these everyday prayers in a mantra-like fashion.
For each of the mysteries we have the Our Father,
The Hail Mary repeated ten times and the Deloria.
When the five mysteries have been contemplated,
The rosary concludes with the recitation of the Hail Holy Queen.
So if you're ready,

The first glorious mystery,
The most beautiful of the three,
Is the the first glorious mystery,
The resurrection of Jesus from the dead.
Our Father,
Who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,

Show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.

O sweet Virgin Mary,
Pray for us a Holy Mother of God,
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
May the divine assistance remain always with us and may the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.

Tony….I like that you ended the Our Father in the traditional way that we learnt as children. When did that extra bit get added on ? It’s Sunday evening here in Sydney and outside the dark is gathering and the birds singing themselves into sleep so a perfect way to wind down the day with the Rosary. I don’t recall hearing as a child that on Sunday the Glorious Rosary is said so go raibh maith agat for that knowledge. Mind you it was probably told me but I wasn’t paying attention.
