Dear friends,
These are thoughts for those Twilight moments between waking and getting out of bed.
This is where the thought for this meditation came to me.
And they are thoughts for your Twilight moments as well.
Or for those moments when you sit for your morning reflection.
Each day we re-enter the world of light.
We see the light of a new day.
Even in places which,
At times of year,
Enjoy 24 hours daylight,
We open our eyes,
We open our blinds and there it is again,
Light.
If we wake up in darkness,
We press the switch and again,
What do we see?
Light.
The light of each new day is a reminder of the light that is within each one of us,
Our inner light.
Even if we've lost the gift of sight,
We still share that gift of inner light,
Of which all external light is simply a reminder.
The light of each new day washes away the shadows of darkness.
We begin again.
A fresh start.
A clean sheet.
So today let us give thanks for being here.
For our existence in a world,
The magic of which defies description.
Just look around and pay attention.
This is another day in paradise.
Let's take time to notice it.
Let us never fall into the habit of taking this for granted.
We must really look and we must really see.
During the last week I listened to a meditation on Inside Timer which cut through all the confusion as to how we might live a good life today.
This was a meditation by the wonderful,
Venerable Tubton Chowdharm.
Her meditation was entitled,
Gaining a Beneficial Motivation.
I encourage you to listen to it and to note her gentle words of encouragement.
It reminded me that living a good life is not as complicated as computer programming or many of the things we do for making a living or even as hobbies.
The instructions are simple once we turn on our inner light.
1.
Do no harm today,
In thought,
In word or in deed.
We don't set out to do harm but we must keep our eyes open and not fall into the hole.
2.
Try to be a benefit to others insofar as we can.
This is what we all want to do but sometimes we think we can do it later.
Let's do it now.
3.
Maintain an attitude of compassion.
We set out to do this but the pressures and the busyness of the day can cause us to forget and we become a little harder ourselves.
Let's try a little harder to remember to be softer.
Show compassion to all we meet.
We don't know what might be going inside for them and our light might just be the help they need right now.
So don't ever be discouraged by the failures of the past.
The sun has come up again today.
Our inner light is shining.
Let it shine today for the benefit of all the people we will come across today.
And when evening comes let us close our eyes in gratitude for another day where we have had a very special gift.
We have had yet another chance to live a life of love and kindness.
What a world this is.
What good fortune we have had.
Namaste.
