How to build a dream.

Hello and thanks for tuning in to Tranquil Spirits podcast.

My name's Jacqueline and I'm very happy to have you here with me.

Before I get started,

I want to ask you a question.

How many times have you had a brilliant idea for something but have never seen it through to fruition?

If this isn't necessarily you,

I bet you know two or three people this definitely applies to.

We are always being given thoughts of achieving a new goal,

Dreaming of building an amazing business or seeing something we would like to accomplish ourselves.

But while many will fulfil their dreams and goals,

Many more won't do anything about them or they'll start and won't finish.

For those of us who have taken the big decision to get going,

Follow through and actually see the finished result of our dreams,

The feeling it gives us is like no other.

The sense of achievement is so amazing and it really does fuel us and make us want to achieve more things.

But why do many of us give up so quickly on dreams and goals or never get started in the first place?

There are umpteen different reasons why,

But here are a few.

It can be due to the lack of support from the people around us or we think we're not good enough to achieve the goal or we focus on negative things such as thinking we have a lack of money or time or we have very little personal motivation or too much self-doubt within us.

Or we simply think and then decide that nobody is going to want to have,

Hear about or even buy what we're going to be doing or making.

Does any of this sound familiar to you?

If it does,

Then keep listening as I'm going to give you my five tips that can and will help you build your dreams without hesitation.

Number one,

Be choosy who you tell.

You probably already know within your group of family and friends who will and who won't support you.

The ones who won't support you are probably people who see and focus on a lot of negativity in the world.

They simply can't see your vision and no matter how much you try and share with them,

They never will see it.

So don't waste your breath,

Even if this is somebody who is very important to you.

Instead,

Spend time around the people who will support you,

Who may not completely see your vision but will support you anyway.

Spend time with the people who say positive things,

Who are there to cheer you on and will encourage you to the end.

Be around those who will lift you up when you feel uneasy about your dream,

As at times you probably will.

Surround yourself with people who want nothing more than to see you succeed.

Go and find inspiring people,

Talk to those who have done something similar to what you are trying to do.

They will want to share their tips and they will love talking about their successes.

Find people on social media,

Join groups where like-minded people are.

Get your motivation from others,

From positive,

Driven,

Determined people.

The more you can do this,

The more likely you will succeed.

Number 2.

Take bite-size pieces.

Break the project or task down into bite-size pieces,

Pieces which don't look so daunting,

Pieces that look doable and achievable.

When I wrote my first book,

How Two Became One Across the Pond,

The story of how I met my husband and the things we had to overcome,

It seemed like a great idea at the start.

But as I began to write,

I became overwhelmed by this huge project before me.

I could have given up in the early days,

But I decided to focus on finding a solution.

So I looked at it in a different way.

It was no longer a book,

But segments of my life.

First,

I decided what each chapter would be about and the path I wanted to take as I told the story before I started writing.

A chapter was doable and didn't overwhelm me.

I concentrated on the chapter I was writing in the moment and paid no attention to the others.

Eventually all the chapters were written and I could join them together to build the actual book.

I have used this technique for my subsequent books and it works without fail every time.

Taking bite-size pieces works for anything we want to achieve in life,

From trying to lose weight,

Learning to drive,

Building a house,

Starting to meditate,

Even growing a flower garden.

This really does make sense.

After all,

Would you try and eat all the food at a buffet in one serving?

No,

You would eat it one bite at a time.

Number three,

Don't panic.

If things go wrong,

As they will,

The worst thing we can do is panic.

This causes anger,

Frustration and the feeling of failure and there's nothing positive in any of these.

If something isn't turning out as you expected,

Don't use this as a reason to give up.

Just find another way to do it.

If you really are struggling with things not going right,

Step back for a while and look at it the next day or in a couple of days.

By taking time out,

We can refocus.

We can take a look at things with a fresh,

Clear mind rather than with a frustrated,

Confused mind.

We can also get someone else's opinion.

Ask one of your positive friends for this.

Sometimes we can't actually see the problem which is right under our nose,

So a fresh pair of eyes can help there.

Another way to lose the panic is to go back to the reason why we wanted to do this in the first place and breathe as we remember the excitement we felt when we had the thought about this dream.

Things really don't seem so bad when we are in a calm state of mind.

Number four,

Do a little every day.

To achieve anything,

We have to do something towards it.

Sitting still and thinking about it will not make it happen.

All that will do is give us plenty of time to think of excuses not to begin.

By committing to doing a little bit every day,

We will eventually succeed.

Sometimes it can be hard to get started,

Especially if we are going to be tackling a huge project and this can also be a reason to stop.

But if we don't allow ourselves to focus on the amount of work we have to do,

But instead commit to doing a little towards it every day,

We will move forward and achieve the desired end result.

If we plant seeds one day,

We don't expect the plant to be fully grown the next day.

We accept the fact that it will grow a little every day.

So we should apply this same reasoning to our projects.

And number five is believe.

Believe in the project and believe in yourself.

If you can think it,

You can do it.

It really is that simple.

Having a strong inner belief will help you conquer so many battles.

Having a strong inner belief will help you turn away from the negative chatter.

Having a strong inner belief will give you the determination and motivation to achieve dream after dream.

So these are my five tips to help you build a dream.

Number one,

Be choosy who you tell.

Number two,

Take bite sized pieces.

Number three,

Don't panic.

Number four,

Do a little every day.

And number five,

Believe.

Throughout my life,

I have learnt that it is okay to keep things to myself and be choosy who I talk to and share my dreams with.

I have learnt that by setting myself small tasks each day,

I am more likely to do them and ultimately accomplish so much more even when I don't always feel like it.

I have learnt that panicking about anything doesn't achieve a good result.

But by taking a breath and being determined to find a solution,

Problems and panic just disappear.

And I have learnt that when I believe in myself and my projects,

People around me believe in me too.

Thank you so much for listening.

I hope you have found this useful in some way.
