Welcome.
This practice is designed to give your body a chance to rest during the day without lowering the sleep pressure that helps you fall asleep tonight.
So instead of trying to sleep right now,
We're simply allowing your system to reset.
You can do this practice sitting comfortably.
Reclined or lying down if that feels supportive.
If you're lying down,
Just see if you can stay gently awake while you listen.
And if your eyes want to close,
That's completely okay.
To get started,
Begin by noticing your breathing.
There's no need to change it.
Just noticing where your breath feels.
Most present.
It might be in your chest or your belly.
Or maybe your nose.
Let your attention rest there for a moment.
As your breath moves in and out.
Your body has a natural rhythm of energy and rest throughout the day.
And when sleep hasn't been going well.
Those rhythms can feel a little uneven.
So this practice gives your nervous system a small pause.
A reset.
Without interrupting your ability to sleep later tonight.
Bring your attention to your shoulders.
Notice if they've been holding tension.
If they have,
See if they can drop just a little.
Not forcing them.
Just allowing gravity to help.
Then bring your attention to your jaw.
Let your teeth separate slightly if they're touching.
Let your tongue rest on the bottom of your mouth.
Now notice your hands resting wherever they are.
With nothing to hold.
Nothing to manage.
Just resting.
Sometimes when we're tired during the day,
The body asks for sleep.
Sometimes is simply asking for a moment of stillness.
And learning the difference between those two signals helps rebuild strong sleep pressure for the night ahead.
So for the next few breaths.
Just let yourself pause here.
Breathing in.
And breathing out.
If your mind starts drifting,
That's okay.
Just gently bring your attention back to the feeling of your breath.
Or the feeling of your body being supported where you are.
This kind of rest still counts.
Your nervous system understands it.
Even when you stay awake.
And each time you give your body this kind of rest during the day.
You're helping build a stronger,
More natural sleep for the night ahead.
So take one more slow breath here.
Feel how this simple gesture provides your body exactly what it needs.
Let your body soften.
And when you're ready.
Gently open your eyes if they were closed.
Returning to the rest of your day.
Feeling just a little more steady.
And still building.
The sleep that your body is preparing for tonight.
You can come back to this meditation anytime your body needs rest or a reset.
