Archaeologists have discovered that drums were a vital part of the Mesopotamia lifestyle over 8,
000 years ago,
Not only used for ceremonial purposes or religious purposes,
But also used as a form of communication.
Drums and drumming can be a powerful tool for people to go inward,
To be able to go and lose your mind,
As they say,
And not think,
But just focus on the drums themselves.
If you are familiar with EMDR,
A form of therapy used to help heal traumatic events,
Traumatic things,
There is a rhythm that can be used for eye movement that with every drumbeat or beat or rhythm,
The eye moves right,
Left,
Left,
Right.
Whatever happens to you,
However you feel,
I'd like you to just get into a comfortable position and just sort of see where the drumbeat takes you.
Do you notice your eyes moving right and left,
Left and right?
Do you just sit still?
Do you hate the sound of the drum?
What is it you're feeling?
What are you experiencing during the drum?
Let's just give it a go.
So get comfortable,
Close your eyes,
And breathe.
If you want to take a deep breath like I always do,
I breathe in and along and slow out.
How did that make you feel?
What did you think about?
Did you notice your eyes moving?
Did you notice your body?
Did you notice what you were thinking about?
Now I'll try a different rhythm just to see where does it take you.
So if you need to get back settled in,
If you just need to breathe,
If you just need to pause just for a moment just so you can think,
Whatever it is you need,
Take the time for you to listen to you.
I'll begin with a different rhythm,
Breathing in and out,
Taking deep breath in and long and slow out.
Do you have a preference?
Do you prefer one over the other?
Do you not like it at all?
Whatever it is for you,
Drumming is just a tool.
And so for me personally,
I love the drum.
I have my particular rhythm that I like for most of the time,
But sometimes it's nice to mix it up.
I'll try one more rhythm for you and let's just see where it takes you.
Get into a comfortable position and breathe however you need to breathe.
And remember,
Just observe,
Don't judge your thoughts and your body.
How was that for you?
Feel into it.
Know what works for you,
What doesn't work for you,
What you like,
What you don't like.
For those of you that would like a longer playing,
Please continue listening.
And I will just go to different rhythms,
Whatever moves me.
Get comfortable and breathe and just observe,
Don't judge thoughts and the way that the body reacts,
Breathe.
How do you feel?
What were you thinking?
What were you experiencing?
Take the time and realize the drum can be a very important tool to help you get out of your head and just let go.
Thank you.
