Day two,
Welcome back,
Take a breath and settle in.
The way that you eat today didn't begin today,
It began long ago.
Your family system,
Your culture,
Your peers,
Your friends,
All gave you messages about food and body.
In CBT,
Which stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy,
These are called schemas.
In other words,
Deeply held beliefs that shape how we think,
Feel and act.
To change a pattern,
We first must understand the story beneath it.
And today,
We begin excavating your food story,
Not to judge,
But to understand.
We're going to practice a guided visualisation that allows you,
That transports you back.
Back to a time when you were young.
Now,
When you're ready,
Close your eyes and imagine yourself at the family table when you were a child.
Notice who is there,
Notice the atmosphere,
Notice the food.
What messages did you absorb?
Perhaps about finishing everything on your plate,
Avoiding certain foods,
Not having seconds or earning treats.
Were you told to eat your vegetables,
Otherwise you'd be punished with no dessert?
Me too.
Recollect with tenderness those times,
Because they formed some very important imprints.
Maybe some of them were useful and others,
Not so much.
Allow whatever arises to come into awareness,
Without pushing it away.
These beliefs were given to you,
But they are not who you are today.
Once we finish this practice,
I invite you to write down one belief about food or body that you inherited.
And ask yourself,
Is this belief true?
Is it serving me?
Tomorrow we'll begin to shine a light on the inner voice that keeps these beliefs alive.
That voice has something to share with you that maybe you're not aware of.
Thank yourself for continuing on this rewiring journey.
Tomorrow we're going deep,
Deep and even deeper into the subconscious programming that might be keeping you stuck with food.
The good news is,
This path is one that's neuro-linguistically designed for lasting change.
One step,
One meal,
One bite and one day at a time.
I'll see you tomorrow.
