What ways of being and relating can we embody to practice emotional honesty as an act of care?
Part poem,
Part possibility,
This set of careful actions invites us to meditate on what our commitments to truth,
Authenticity,
Love,
Dignity,
Integrity,
Intimacy,
And connection will require from us moment to moment.
When we can illuminate the complexities of our interior worlds,
Even when it's messy,
Even when it may cause a rupture,
We are acting with care.
When we can locate within ourselves a desire to move through our relationships from a place of authenticity,
We are acting with care.
When we can prepare a sanctuary to hold the difficult and courageous conversations and say the things that must be said,
We are acting with care.
When we can make the practice of truth-telling and listening a part of our life's work,
We are acting with care.
When we can engage in self-reflection and self-study so we're able to notice a truth that needs to be expressed through us,
We are acting with care.
When we can refuse to gaslight,
Deny,
Avoid,
Or dismiss the presence of emotional honesty within others,
We are acting with care.
When we can trust our feelings and emotions to be sources of knowledge that can build healing relationships,
We are acting with care.
When we can boldly share what's true for us without burdening others with the labor or responsibility of revealing that truth,
We are acting with care.
When we can accept the truest parts of ourselves and treat them as companions for love,
Dignity,
Integrity,
Intimacy,
And connection,
We are acting with care.
May we take better care of each other's hearts.
May we meet our real selves so we can really meet each other.
And may we remember that emotional honesty is an act of care.
