So today I want to present something to you that I find really cool and I learned it whilst doing my homeopathy qualification and it has helped so many of my clients when they aren't in session with me.
It's a way of regulating the breath but also claiming what you need in the moment using your breath.
And it's totally free and easy to do.
All it uses is your thumb,
Your fingers,
Your chakras,
And of course,
Your breath.
Really,
Really simple.
Your fingertips are densely packed with sensory structures.
When two fingertips touch,
Pressure-sensitive mechanico-receptors essentially convert that contact into an electrical nerve signal.
And I don't want to go too deeply into the nervous system.
And how amazing it is because that's just like extra information to throw at you that you might not need right now.
Go and have a look in a book.
We're going to be talking about the chakras,
Your fingers,
And your hands.
And nervous system ever so slightly.
Essentially what we're doing is working with mudra systems and traditional mudra systems,
If you've never heard of the word mudra before,
Essentially it means a symbolic or ritual.
Hand and body gesture used to direct subtle energy.
And they have their own finger association.
This is my.
.
.
System.
That helps to anchor those mudras.
Anchor the nerve endings,
The central nervous system components of your hands.
To experience contact in relation to the seven chakra system.
I want to first start with the index finger.
The index finger representing the crown and the third eye shark crown.
Biologically.
Sensation from the palm side of the index finger travels predominantly through the median nerve.
That sensory information ultimately reaches the brain's somatosensory cortex.
Where the index finger has its own distinct representation for energy that travels through it.
I pair this finger with the third eye and the crown chakra,
The two centres that I associate with perception and discernment,
Intuition,
Connection and the ability to see beyond the immediate physical picture of our surroundings.
In the chakra system that I work with,
The third eye centres on the question,
Do I trust what I see?
And it therefore governs wisdom and discernment,
Imagination and intuition and clarity.
The crown chakra,
The top of the brain,
Top of the brain,
Top of the head,
Centres on connection serenity,
Bliss,
Inspiration and a sense of relationship with something much larger than our individual selves.
When I bring the thumb.
.
.
There we go,
To the index finger.
I therefore use the physical sensation as a point of mental focus.
And when we touch these two and we breathe,
It allows the breath to become slower and quieter.
The biology that I'm working with here.
Is essentially a sensory attention plus a respiratory regulation rather than the index finger itself switching on.
Clicking a light switch,
Switching on that parasympathetic nervous system.
The touch here gives our brains an anchor,
While slower breathing helps shift it.
Autonomic regulation towards a more calmer state.
And by doing so when we touch any of these fingers.
We are directing the breath to that particular chakra.
So the middle finger.
.
.
On the palm side is also supplied primarily to the median nerve.
So touching it creates another distinct stream of,
I guess,
Tactile information into our nervous systems.
Energetically,
I pair this finger here with the throat chakra and the heart chakra.
And both of these have a lot to do with how we express ourselves but of course the heart chakra is related to love,
Relationships,
Empathy,
Receiving and emotional openness and the throat chakra governs communication,
Truth,
Expression,
Listening,
And the movement of something internal into the external world.
Connecting and breathing.
To the middle fingers.
Helps to regulate those spaces whilst also breathing new energy into your heart and your throat chakras.
I use this contact with steady breath.
That I can essentially,
When you do it.
.
.
When you hold,
Hold those two.
You can feel the breath going to those places,
Going to those chakras.
Again,
It becomes another physical cue for the relationship between what I feel and what I express.
So moving on to our ring fingers.
Feels weird to do ring fingers these are associated with our solar plexus and our gut space and our sacral chakra and our reproductive space I see the solar plexus and sacral chakras as centers of personal power A lot of choice,
Creativity.
The sacral is associated with joy,
Passion,
Pleasure,
Creativity.
Emotional movement,
Sex.
And it sort of is receiving the question,
Am I allowed to enjoy this?
Whatever this is.
The solar plexus at the gut space centres on confidence,
Self-worth,
Motivation,
Personal power,
Action,
Choice of freedom.
And also whether you trust the outside world.
And it participates in autonomic regulation of organs,
Including the stomach,
The liver,
The pancreas,
The spleen,
The kidneys,
And a portion of the intestine.
Further down into that pelvic region.
There's also major,
Major autonomic circuitry happening.
Parasympathetic fibres from your spine at vertebrae S2 to vertebrae S4 has these pelvic nerves that contribute to the neural regulation of pelvic and reproductive organs.
So there's so much going on with these fingers.
So when I use the ring finger,
And I breathe,
I allow the breath to feel fuller and slightly more activating in those centres if you do it now.
I can literally feel the breath directing straight to those centres and it helps bring attention towards the abdomen and pelvis.
I experience this pairing.
When I need movement,
Creative charge and also agency.
And finally we have our pinky fingers which are associated with our root chakra.
What's my hair doing?
The root chakra primarily has a lot of connection to our small intestine and the lower chambers of our body.
I associate the root chakra with the lowest center in our chakra system with physical safety,
Stability,
Structure,
And a sense of belonging and groundedness,
And the body's most basic question Am I safe?
The root is also connected to the base of the spine and connects to the heart.
The physical body through the legs and the feet,
Our parts of our body that deal with stability.
Survival responses of fight,
Flight,
Freeze or fawn.
So when I connect my thumb to my pinky and I breathe.
I literally feel the breath going all the way down to that root chakra.
Grounding,
Providing stability,
Safety in moments when I need it.
I pair this contact with,
You know,
Slower breathing if I can,
Just.
.
.
Breathing deeply but comfortably,
Particularly a relaxed exhalation.
In that sense,
Grounding becomes something that can be quite concrete and quite easy to do,
And it reduces the amount of attention being spent on it as well,
Where if you just You're grounding right there and then,
You don't need to overthink it.
It provides your body with that sensory information as well.
What I love about this is that you don't need to train your fingers.
Or your mind to recognise that they have these really magical buttons inside of them,
Because touch is magic.
Activate sensory receptors.
It happens immediately,
Automatically.
Instantly.
Quantumly at the same time.
And those signals then enter the nervous system.
It's just so easy,
And it's great for kids too,
If you have kids.
So to conclude what we've been discussing,
Index finger,
Third eye,
And crown chakra,
All about perception and connection.
You need a little bit more of a boost.
With those two centers.
Feel the breath going there.
It just naturally will.
Then we have the throat chakra and the heart chakra.
Feeling,
Expression,
Same thing,
Connect and breathe We have the ring finger for sacral and solar plexus connections,
For creativity and personal power,
And of course,
The ring finger,
And the pinkies,
Which are our root chakra,
Safety and embodiment.
The hand.
In this sense,
It's a literal physical map of our whole system from root to crown.
And rather than trying to.
.
.
Think myself into a different state.
I can literally give my body.
.
.
The physical point of contact and pair it with the breath and let go.
My attention organise itself around that.
I don't need to get involved.
I hope that you have taken something brand new from this video.
I hope that you can have Practice that as many times as you need.
And yeah,
Just have a go in moments in life.
I find it the most valuable time.
If you feel like you need a quick dose of what your chakras can give you,
Connect to it through the finger.
And see if you can feel that breath going exactly to where the chakras are positioned by anchoring it in through the breath.
Thank you so much for watching.
I really,
Really appreciate you taking the time to sit with me,
Ramble on.
And yeah,
All the best,
Lots of love,
Take good care,
Speak to you soon,
Bye bye for now.
