The Story of Sweetcakes Sweetcakes is a friendly fairy.
When Sweetcakes's cheeks are rosy red,
It is either because she is happy or she has just eaten her favourite cake.
She loves tasty goodies,
Especially cakes.
She can never get enough of cakes.
Chocolate,
Vanilla,
Strawberry,
Mango,
Whatever the flavour,
Sweetcakes loves them all.
Her favourite is the cherry cupcake.
Now every Saturday,
Sweetcakes visits the local market.
There she gets her bread,
Eggs,
Tea and,
Of course,
Cakes.
But this has made all the folk of Magic Meadow a bit worried.
They are worried that there won't be enough cakes for Sweetcakes and everyone else.
The young fairy is known to buy all the cakes from the bakery stall,
Much to the disappointment of those behind her in the queue.
I need a treat for my visitors tomorrow,
Complained old Mrs Cat.
No,
We won't have a cake for our birthday party,
Moaned the twin tadpoles.
It wasn't long before all the creatures of Magic Meadow started grumbling about Sweetcakes and her sweet tooth.
Eventually,
Dear polite Polly Parrot was asked to speak to Sweetcakes and explain why her friends were unhappy.
Oh,
I am so sorry,
Cried Sweetcakes.
I never meant to take them all.
I just,
I just love eating delicious goodies so much.
Whatever shall I do?
Why not bake your own,
Suggested Polly Parrot.
Sweetcakes' face lit up.
Why did I never think of that before?
Oh,
Thank you,
Polly Parrot.
I'm going to my kitchen straight away.
And so she did.
She got out her recipe book,
All the necessary ingredients and her apron.
Sweetcakes was so happy while she was baking.
She beamed from ear to ear.
And when at last the dough was in the oven,
A very content little fairy went outside to sit on top of her toadstool home and wait for the cake to rise.
Every few minutes she checked the cake,
But nothing seemed to be happening.
Three hours later,
The dough was still runny and flat.
Trying hard not to cry,
Sweetcakes went next door to ask her neighbors for help.
Are you sure you used baking powder?
Asked the ever helpful Mrs.
Hedgehog.
Perhaps the oven wasn't switched on,
Piped up Mr.
Hedgehog.
I did use the baking powder,
And the oven is switched on,
Said Sweetcakes.
She went back home to try again.
This time she whistled while she worked.
Alas,
Not even her new song kept her happy when her cake yet again did not rise.
Determined not to give up,
She tried every recipe in her book.
Pouring,
Mixing,
She worked through the night,
But nothing changed.
By the time the sun rose the next morning,
Sweetcakes was a very sad looking fairy.
Morning,
Sweetcakes,
Yelled the school ants as they marched on the lane past the toadstool house.
Sweetcakes did not reply.
Then Beauty Bug called.
Are you ready for our bicycle ride?
There was no answer.
Soon,
All the forest folk of Magic Meadow were very worried about Sweetcakes.
No one had ever seen her unhappy,
And she certainly never missed her morning bike ride.
Something must be terribly wrong.
When Mr.
And Mrs.
Hedgehog told the others about Sweetcakes' baking misfortune,
It was understood why the friendly fairy was not herself.
She is missing her cakes,
Said Cheery Chimp.
Let us bake her a cake,
Cried Greeny Grasshopper.
I think she would prefer to learn to make her own cake,
Replied Mrs.
Hedgehog.
Oh,
Then let's send her our favorite recipes,
Said Slinky Snail.
I will put them all together in one book.
Everyone thought that was a grand idea.
By the end of the morning,
Slinky Snail had made a lovely recipe book with all the favorite recipes from Magic Meadow.
Knowing that Sweetcakes would not open her door,
Wishing Wizard was asked to fly to the top of her toadstool and drop the recipe book down her chimney.
As the wizard was carefully sliding the book down the chimney,
He couldn't help hearing the sobs of the sad Sweetcakes inside.
Without thinking twice,
He added a magic rhyme to the front of the book.
That should do the trick,
He smiled as he flew out of the chimney,
Letting the book drop with a bang into the fireplace in Sweetcakes' lounge.
Sweetcakes jumped with fright as she saw a car driving by.
When at last the dust had settled,
She saw a large book was sitting on a shelf nearby.
Slowly,
She went over to have a closer look.
Teary-eyed Sweetcakes,
She looked at the book and smiled.
She couldn't believe that her friends cared so much for her.
The excited fairy was sure with these wonderful recipes,
She would make the most delicious cakes.
She put on her apron and set to work.
She was so excited,
She even made a cake for herself.
She was so excited,
She even made a cake for herself.
In just a few minutes,
The first cake was in the oven.
Happy once again,
Sweetcakes settled down to take a closer look at her new recipe book.
And that is when she noticed a loose sheet of paper.
It read,
Clap your hands twice and your cake will taste nice.
Then say tweet,
Tweet,
Tweet for your cake to be sweet.
The little fairy's heart leapt with joy as she realized this was the ingredient her cakes had been missing.
Magic!
Racing to the oven,
Sweetcakes clapped her hands twice and said,
Tweet,
In an instant,
A golden glow appeared through the oven door as the cake rose to perfection.
Sweetcakes couldn't believe her eyes.
And when she tasted the cake,
Well,
It just melted in her mouth.
It was the best cake she had ever tasted.
Happier than she had ever been,
Sweetcakes said to her,
Baking every single recipe from her new book.
Before the sun had a chance to set,
Sweetcakes had a house filled with glorious looking treats on every table and chair.
When she was satisfied with what she saw,
She opened her front door and called,
Sweetcakes for everyone!
Sweetcakes for everyone!
The news soon spread through Magic Meadow that Sweetcakes was offering Sweetcakes to all the forest folk.
Ants,
Beetles,
Butterflies,
Bees,
Dragonflies,
Worms,
Squirrels,
Moles,
Birds,
And all the creatures of the meadow came to taste the baked goods.
Everyone was incredibly amazed at the magical taste of each one.
Hmm,
It has a hint of golden sunshine,
Commented Ollie Owl.
With a touch of rainbow juice,
Added Candy Caterpillar.
When all tummies and taste buds were satisfied,
Sweetcakes called for the attention of everyone.
I would like to thank you all for your kindness shown through your magical recipes.
Without them,
I would not have been able to make such tasty cakes.
Oh,
Thank you so much,
Everyone,
And thank you for being my friend.
The forest folk cheered.
I'm sure she changed her baking powder,
Whispered Mrs.
Hedgehog.
Whispered Mrs.
Hedgehog to Mr.
Hedgehog.
Meanwhile,
No one saw Wishing Wizard smiling as he peeped down through the tops of the trees.
