Hello beautiful souls,
This is June B and welcome to a beautiful night's sleep.
Thanks for being here for another in the series of Bedtime Tales with June B.
It's raining,
What else is new?
We are going to look at the puddles formed outside and have some fun.
So let's get into your favorite sleeping position,
Make sure you're comfortable,
Close your eyes and slowly imagine yourself melting into the bed.
Now let's go to your breathing,
Slowing down the heart rate and let's take some nourishing breaths together.
Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Breathe in,
Breathe out.
Ahh!
Breathe in,
Breathe out,
Ohh this last time breathe in.
Jab,
Breathe out,
Ah this is lying.
Breathe out.
Ahhhhhhh.
Oh,
The rain is falling.
It has been non-stop for a day or so,
Although for me it feels more like it's been raining for a week or so.
The rain did lighten up for a while and now it has started to pelt down again.
I love the rain and I do like to explore the different types of rain that form from time to time.
So today we will look at puddles and how much fun we can have with them.
As we begin,
Let's get the definition of one.
According to Wikipedia,
A puddle is a small accumulation of liquid,
Usually water,
On a surface.
It can form either by pooling in a depression on the surface or by surface tension upon a flat surface.
A puddle is generally shallow enough to walk through and too small to travel through with a boat or raft.
So now that we know what a puddle truly is,
We will go outside in the rain and jump right in,
Literally.
I am outside and have on my rain clothes.
Today I am enjoying being in the rain and not ready to get wet yet,
So I am all protected from it,
Well,
As much as I can be,
Right?
As I walk through the streets,
I see people dodging the rain as if it is the plague.
Only where I live in the UK,
It rains a lot.
I mean a lot.
On average,
It rains about 150 days out of any one year,
So that is more than a third of the year we have rain.
I have learned at this stage in my life to prepare for it well.
I grew up with the rain mostly falling,
Even in the summer,
So I am kind of used to being in it and having to do my daily tasks in the rain.
Going to work,
Running errands,
Socialising,
Even going to church or the supermarket.
Rain doesn't stop anything in this country and we have all learned to put up with it,
To some degree,
At least.
So walking along,
I can see there is a slight let up in the rain and many puddles have formed on the ground.
There are all sorts of puddles,
Large puddles,
Small puddles,
Wide puddles and narrow puddles.
Oh man,
This is a cohoble pot of different puddle formations.
In the distance,
I see a mother with her two kids.
She is crossing the road at a zebra crossing and as she gets to the other side,
There is a huge puddle formed,
One of her kids sneakily pulls away from her hands and at the last minute he goes,
Jump into the puddle and splash all over mum and sister.
Well I don't have to tell you what happened next.
He got into a lot of trouble for that little stunt and everyone had muddy water all over them.
Oh man,
It was messy.
Now for me,
That is fun.
I remember going out for a walk when the rain had let up some and whilst having a long pair of welly boots on wading through all the puddles that I could see in front of me.
I don't tend to want to jump in and splash in them as I used to when I was little.
I am a bit more of an explorer nowadays I would say.
Slow and steady was the way I wanted to go through these puddles because for most of them I couldn't see the bottom of the puddle.
Kinda like a kinder surprise as you never know what's underneath.
When I went through one of them the water nearly went into my welly boots because it was so deep right in the middle.
Oh that was a sight to see.
I nearly had to be pulled out of that one by my partner.
One time.
Now I look at the puddles and wonder what it took to form them in the mirrored of different configurations and shapes that lay before us.
Looking into the puddles now you see different things depending on the surface they have been formed on.
So for puddles formed on the road you can probably see the street paint which are called lane dividers.
Yellow,
White and red lines.
Or if the surface is grass maybe only grass and some mud.
Alternatively if the surface is tarmac then you may be able to see the bottom of the puddle and that is the best type.
You can see right through to the surface and as you walk through it you can see your welly boots if you have them on that is and make different patterns in the puddle as you twirl and pull your foot back and forth watching the water ripple and swash over your boots.
There are no two puddles alike and when it is still raining and you can see each drop falling into the puddle it looks like the ripples are going out and out and touching other ripples.
Fascinating to watch I would say.
Did you know that puddles dry up as the water drops go back up into the air and become part of a cloud and then when the cloud is ready it releases all those water drops back down into the earth to form more puddles.
Isn't that funny?
The rain droplets live to form a puddle another day.
So as we watch the rain drops fall into this puddle in front of us and watch the endless ripples that are forming that is an amazing way to relax and feel at peace.
I'm not sure about you.
I'm getting sleepy even thinking about it.
So I'm ready to let go and fully surrender to sleep.
Thanks for joining me tonight and as you slowly drift away have yourself a wonderful night's sleep.
And looking forward to seeing you again for another in the series of Bedtime Tales with June Bee.
Good night.
