Hello beautiful souls,
This is June B and welcome to an amazing night's sleep.
Thanks for being here for another in the series of Bedtime Tales with June B.
Join me as I have a relaxing evening rocking in my chair in front of a fan.
Let's begin.
Get into your favourite sleeping position.
Make sure you're comfortable.
Close your eyes.
Relax your muscles and slowly imagine yourself melting into the bed.
Now let's go to your breathing,
Slowing down the heart rate and let's take some nourishing breaths together.
Breathe in,
Breathe out.
Breathe in,
Breathe out.
Breathe in,
Breathe out.
Breathe in,
Breathe out.
Breathe in,
Breathe out.
Last time breathe in,
Breathe out.
So I'm here on holiday and it has been raining a lot.
Usually it's quite dry although for the last few days it has been very wet.
Now I know how much the Earth needs the water.
I mean water gives life right?
If I'm being honest rain is my favourite thing.
I really love to watch it from a place of shelter,
Not to be in it all the time though.
So for a few days I have been inside and sheltering from the wet.
It's okay though there's a lot of good things to do here and I actually feel like catching up on some books that I have been looking at me for a while.
So firstly let's look outside and see how hard the rain is falling.
Oh my it's chucking it down.
As we say in the UK it's raining cats and dogs.
So I will close this window and gently settle into this beautiful rocking chair to read my book.
I love sitting here in this rocking chair back and forth,
Back and forth.
As the house is closed up and is getting quite warm I shall put on the fan to keep me cooler while I read.
Ah that is perfect.
The fan is blowing towards me and is so calming and soothing at the same time.
I love the sound of a fan going.
Once it isn't one of those huge industrial ones in a warehouse those ones are so big and very noisy.
This little one is very small and cute enough to take the heat away and cool me down.
Did you know that a box fan doesn't actually make the air cooler but simply redistributes the air around the room?
They say you should open a window or door opposite the fan.
So wherever the fan is facing it allows the air to circulate through the room and even if the air outside is warm the fan may create a cooling effect and that's all we need right now a little cooling effect and boy is it cooling the air in the room.
It feels absolutely perfect here right now with the rain falling outside and the fan going on in here it makes a wonderful combination.
Let's not even go into the rocking of this beautiful chair.
I remember when my kids were young I used to have to get up in the middle of the night to breastfeed I would pop myself in my rocking chair and we would both be out like a light.
The gentle swaying of the chair and the light creaking sound it makes as it goes back and forth is a beautiful sound for sure.
Can you hear all these sounds now and how they make a symphony of falling into a deep and nourishing sleep?
Listen for a moment.
Did you know that there are even health benefits of rocking a chair?
Firstly relaxation.
Rocking is relaxing it releases endorphins in the brain which can improve mood and reduce stress and pain.
Secondly pain relief.
It has been discovered that rocking chairs or gliders can relieve pain caused by arthritis and back issues.
By gently rocking your body back and forth you increase blood flow.
This in turn causes a chain reaction sending oxygen to your joints and alleviating some of the symptoms caused by arthritis as a result.
Another benefit is strength.
A rocking chair strengthens muscles and loosens stiff joints while not requiring much exertion.
Seniors can even pair rocking chair exercises with a favorite activity such as knitting or reading.
It is an easy way to burn.
Can you imagine this around a hundred and fifty calories an hour?
Wow!
You learn something new every day.
Lastly anxiety.
Rocking can be an important supplement to long-term care therapy programs.
According to a clinical study frequent use of a rocking chair improves balance and blood circulation while reducing muscle pain,
Anxiety and depression.
I bet you didn't realize how amazing the benefits of rocking a chair could be right?
Well when you see one again I'm sure you will be amazed when thinking about how much it can actually help you as well as being a great tool to help you to relax.
Let's listen once more to the sounds of the rocking chair and the fan slowly kissing our bodies with the cooling night air.
I'm not sure about you,
But I'm getting the hang of it.
I'm not sleepy even thinking about it.
So I'm ready to let go fully and surrender to sleep.
Thanks for joining me tonight and as you slowly drift away have yourself a great night's sleep and looking forward to seeing you again for another in the series of bedtime tales with June B.
Good night.
