I'm going to go over with you the secret to locating your chakras.
This is going to be so useful for some of you.
It's so simple,
So effective,
And we'll show you exactly,
And I mean precisely exactly,
Where your chakras are.
And you might be particularly surprised at where one chakra is.
Often we get it wrong,
And I'll get there in just a moment.
So what are the chakras?
Just a first quick pass at touching into these things.
Very popular notion.
Very common term these days.
Some people might say the chakras are not actually real,
That they're some kind of abstraction.
They're only reflective of the physical body,
Like a nerve plexus or ganglion.
While others might say the chakras are the underlying structure of an energetic multi-dimensional reality,
Which organizes your sense of identity and selfhood.
So they're very diverging beliefs or perspectives on what chakras are,
But nonetheless,
We can use chakras in all different kinds of ways,
And this is going to help you locate them really,
Really precisely.
So the key thing first off is chakras run along your midline,
And they're more or less located in the the core or the center of the verticality of your body.
In general,
I try and point people towards the spine as a way of identifying them.
Some traditions or some people might feel that their chakra is a bit in front of the spine.
Others might feel that it's in the spine.
I think the best general reference to physical anatomy,
Because remember chakras might be non-physical,
That the spine is a good reference to getting in the very,
Very core.
Consider that as we identify these.
Now we're going to use a measurement system to identify the seven primary chakras.
Chakra systems generally seven,
We're going to find those seven chakras,
But we're also going to find how this measurement system I'm about to introduce you to will reveal key landmarks on your body.
We're going to use what we might simply call a body measurement.
I want you to take your hands and stretch them across the width of your eyes.
From the outer eye to the other outer eye,
You're going to get a certain distance,
And that same distance is from the tip of your nose down to the bottom of your chin.
You're going to notice the exact same length.
So we're going to use that measurement.
That's your measuring stick,
The body measurement.
We're going to start with the fourth chakra,
The heart chakra,
Because from there we're going to be able to locate all the rest of them very easily.
Now we're going to be measuring the front of the body,
But remember the chakras are more towards the spine.
So they're back in the body from where we're measuring,
But we can use the front of the body easily to identify where the chakras align with the front.
Okay so where is the heart chakra?
First question,
Where's the heart chakra?
The heart chakra is not where your physical heart is.
It's beneath the physical heart,
More or less where the diaphragm is,
And you can find it quite easily by taking your hand,
Placing it on your chest,
And you'll feel that there's the bone of your chest.
You might call it the breast plate,
And if you run your hand down your breast plate from underneath your throat,
And you go down to the very bottom of it,
You're going to feel a dip.
You're going to feel this little dimple.
Okay that dimple at the bottom of the breast plate,
That is where your heart chakra is back and towards the spine.
Okay you're not going down beneath where there's soft tissue,
But right at the very bottom where you feel that notch or that dimple.
So that's your heart chakra.
Now take your hand and you're going to take the body measurement,
And we're going to go one body measurement down from the heart chakra.
That one body measurement down from the heart chakra,
That's your solar plexus.
That's the third chakra.
Now if you go one more body measurement down beneath the solar plexus,
You're not going to be at a chakra,
But rather at your navel center.
Notice how these significant landmarks on the body come through this body measurement.
So from the navel,
If you do yet another body measurement,
You're going to wind up at the sacral chakra.
And this tends to be right at the very top or at the interface where your pubic bone is.
So it might feel soft there or might feel hard because your pubic bone is just below or above,
But that's where the sacral chakra is.
Now the sacral chakra again going back and towards the spine,
In the spine there would be more like your sacrum.
One body measurement down from the sacral chakra is going to put you in the genitals.
Genitals,
Not a chakra,
But an important area.
And then one more body measurement from the genitals takes us to the perineum.
And this is the root chakra.
Your perineum is in front of the anus and behind and underneath the genitals.
So that's chakras four,
Three,
Two,
And one.
Some important body landmarks like the navel and the genitals as we moved along.
Now we're going to go back to the heart,
Okay?
Come back up to the heart and we're going to start measuring above the heart.
So the heart is the fourth chakra and you're going to go one body measurement above the heart.
Now that's not a chakra,
But it is a very important place.
That is in some spiritual traditions called the high heart.
It's also where your what's known as the sinoartrial node is.
And that's considered basically where it first starts to beat.
So this is a really important spot.
Many people will assume the heart chakra is there because it is important,
But it's not your heart chakra.
It's the high heart.
Now when you go one above the high heart,
One body measurement from there,
You're at the throat chakra.
And that's right at the base of the neck where there's a dimple,
Right?
Right in between your collarbones.
When you go up one from the throat chakra,
Allow for that to connect to your face.
You'll see that's the chin.
There are some esoteric traditions that focus on the chin chakra as they call it.
When you go one up from the chin,
You're going to be right in the third eye,
The sixth chakra.
And that's directly between your eyebrows,
Right pretty much at the top of the nose where it curves inward before it gets to the forehead.
One above that,
That takes you to your hairline or what's sometimes called the brow chakra,
Even the soma chakra.
Then we go one more above the brow chakra.
We get to the crown chakra,
Right?
This is right at the very top of the head.
And lastly,
You can take that body measurement and go one directly above the head off the body.
You're,
You know,
Maybe a few inches or so above the head.
And that would be the octave.
So I mention octave there because it's interesting to note that the chakras are reflective of how our musical notation system is set up.
We have seven primary chakras and in a major scale in music we have seven notes.
So each of the seven chakras are actually at the same intervals.
There are 13 half steps in the body measurement that I just gave you.
We just walked 13 of these body measurements from the perineum all the way up the body.
And the last half step to reach the octave or the repeat is that one above the head that you just finished.
This is an important point or at least one that's worth considering.
That our body is a reflection of a natural organizational pattern that we see in music.
That we even see in this body measurement.
How this one simple measurement is reflected,
Right,
All throughout our body in these major landmarks and of course in the deep tradition of the chakra system.
So I hope this is useful for you.
Hopefully this identifies the chakras for you really clearly.
Makes them more accessible,
Makes them more understandable,
And so that you can have a lot more fun with them in the practices that you're doing.
