We like to believe that feeling seen and understood is a prerequisite to love.
But you,
With your big,
Kind heart and beautiful,
Sincere soul,
May never be fully understood.
Although it may not be safe or good for you to be present with those who've hurt you,
It is safe for you to keep your heart open.
On your own,
You can see the beauty in the other,
And you can love their true self.
Let's try.
Settle into a comfortable position and gently close your eyes.
We're going to breathe in very slowly and out very slowly.
As you inhale,
Imagine the breath coming right through the center of your chest,
In and out of your heart space.
As you breathe,
Focus your attention here,
And feel the energy of your lovely,
Warm heart now.
See your radiant self as though watching from above.
Notice the goodness you share with the world.
See the sadness you feel at times.
Observe the glimmer of hope in your shiny eyes.
As you continue breathing in and out of your heart space,
Send love to your beautiful self.
Maybe there are several or many people you feel closed off from right now.
Begin by choosing one.
See them before you.
You may notice a bit of a wall around their heart.
Maybe it's confusion,
Fear,
Self-doubt,
Uncertainty.
What is it?
Name it.
Now,
Exhale your love directly on that wall around their heart.
Keep going until it becomes translucent like rice paper.
Can you see the beautiful glow of their heart now?
Can you see the light and love in their eyes again?
As you feel yourself able to see,
Send love to their beautiful soul and just rest in this moment.
Remember this feeling and remember that you can come back to this practice anytime.
It's always safe to keep your heart open.
