Good morning.
I invite you to stay where you are,
Laying down.
Perhaps you have not left bed yet.
So often we wake up with a sense of needing to do something,
Be somewhere,
Or rush off to the day.
This meditation is an invitation to wake up slowly with yourself,
To take a few minutes to start your day with you before you have to go be someone else to others.
So as we begin let's notice how our body feels right now upon waking.
Feeling the weight of it sinking into the bed beneath us,
Feeling the contact between our body and the surface,
And just taking a moment to really arrive into our body.
Perhaps saying a soft hello as we do.
Let's continue with some breath.
As we breathe,
Wanting to exhale longer than we inhale.
So taking a deep breath in through the nose,
Expanding your ribs outwards,
And exhaling out of your mouth slowly.
Let's try that again.
Breathing in,
Expanding,
And exhaling out slowly.
Notice how breathing feels for you right now.
Paying attention to any shifts in your body,
Even from just those two breaths.
You can allow your breath to return to a restful state,
And I'll invite you now to bring your awareness back to the body,
To the tips of your toes.
Just spending a moment noticing the tips of your toes.
Now let's wiggle the toes,
And as you do really pay attention to what it feels like to wiggle.
Noticing how the rest of your body responds to the movement of your toes,
To the wiggle.
Now let's do the same thing with our fingers,
Bringing our awareness to our fingertips.
Noticing for a moment how they feel,
And now bringing some movement to our fingers.
A wiggle,
A clenching,
An unclenching,
Whatever feels right for you today,
Whatever your body wants to do.
Let's do it.
And now coming back to the breath,
Taking another big inhale,
Expanding the ribs outwards,
And slowing the exhale.
And again,
Breathing in,
And out at your own pace.
Bringing your focus now to the center of your chest,
Envisioning a bright white light,
Just a pinprick of light in the center of your chest.
And with each breath,
You'll notice this pinprick grows and grows,
Until the white light is filling up your whole chest.
Keep breathing,
And keep expanding this light as it flows down your limbs,
Up into your head,
Encompassing your entire body.
Now let's bask in this white light,
Letting it warm us,
Comfort us,
Energize us.
Being with this beautiful white light for a few breaths.
And before you go about your day,
Or you jump out of bed and be someone to everyone,
Choose one word to carry with you today.
Could be awareness,
Patience,
Joy,
Kindness,
Clarity,
Any word that comes to mind.
And now speak this word softly to yourself,
As you take a few more expansive cleansing breaths.
And now open your eyes and greet the beautiful day ahead.
