The Rig Veda is the root text of the yoga tradition, and its first word is "agnimiile" - "I adore the flame." This practice takes us into the flame within the center of our hearts and explores the subtle beauty of the Rig Veda's first mantra: agnimiile purohitam yajñasya devamritvijam hotaaram ratnadhaatamam.

Good morning,

Welcome to the meditation.

Let yourself settle into a comfortable seat.

Feel your skin.

Your skin wraps every bit of your embodied self,

Contains it.

But it's not just a barrier,

It also breathes.

Like the estuaries between the ocean and the land,

Your skin is always breathing.

So as you inhale and exhale the lung breath,

Also feel the breathing of your skin.

Let yourself settle into a comfortable seat.

And noticing if there's any places that are holding tension,

Gripping,

Just let your breath go there.

Let your attention go there.

Let yourself settle into a comfortable seat.

Let yourself settle into a comfortable seat.

Your heart and your lungs also each have skin.

They're wrapped in layers of skin.

So see if you can feel the skin of your lungs soften,

The skin of your heart.

And if you think that you can't feel it,

Let your imagination take you there.

The line between imagination and reality is not fixed.

Let your imagination take you to the skin,

The experience,

The sensation of the skin of your lungs and the skin of your heart.

Let your imagination take you there.

Let your imagination take you there.

Let your imagination take you there.

Let your imagination take you there.

In the center of your heart,

There's a fire,

A flame.

And fire has this mesmerizing capacity.

It draws us into a mystic state of mind when we stare at the fire.

So as you sit and feel your breathing body,

Stare into the flames of the fire in the center of your heart.

And let yourself be drawn in.

Let yourself be drawn in.

Let yourself be drawn in.

Let yourself be drawn in.

The Rig Veda is the root text of the yoga tradition.

And the first word of the Rig Veda is Agnimī ile.

I adore Agni.

I adore the fire,

The being of the flame,

The presence that embodies as fire.

Agnimī ile.

So as you gaze at the flames in the center of your heart,

See if there's a natural adoration that arises.

Not something that you conjure up or force,

But you're just looking for a natural organic experience of adoration.

Agnimī ile.

The one who stands before the divine,

Who mediates the offering.

The one who gathers in what I offer to it and transforms it,

Frees the essence,

And offers it upwards to the heavens.

The fire can take anything that you want to give it.

It will transform anything and release its essence.

So anything that you are carrying,

That you're ready to put down,

Ready to let go of,

You can offer it to this fire in the center of your heart.

Agnimī ile.

Agnimī ile.

Puro hitam yajñāsya devam ritvijjam devam ritvijjam.

The deva,

The shining one,

Who is in perfect alignment with truth,

Who radiates truth,

Who ripples through time and space,

But is connected to eternity.

Agnimī ile puro hitam yajñāsya devam ritvijjam ho taram.

The warrior against the darkness.

In the midst of the darkness of our own ignorance,

The darkness of the night,

Agni radiates,

Shines,

Illuminates,

Allows us to see what is true.

In our gropings and fumblings in the darkness of our own minds,

Agni illuminates the truth,

Reality,

Lets us see things as they are.

The adoration comes from this,

From recognizing the great gifts offered to us by the being of the flame.

Agni illuminates the great gifts offered to us by the being of the flame.

I adore this flame in the center of my heart.

The one who stands before the divine transforms my offering,

Always aligned with truth,

Warrior against the darkness of ignorance.

The one who radiates divine joy.

This is the flame in our hearts.

And it grows through our reverence,

Through our adoration.

It grows and becomes more powerful,

More transformative,

More radiant.

I offer my adoration to this flame in my heart.

And I also offer my limitations,

My helplessness,

My fear of being seen,

My desire for appreciation.

I offer my innocence and sincerity and my willingness to manipulate.

I offer my rejection of reality,

My desire to be in control.

I offer my smallness of spirit and I feel the radiant warmth as these offerings are taken in,

Devoured,

Transformed,

Released,

Reduced to their essence.

I feel the warmth,

The warmth of divine joy.
