Nancy here from Nancy Inspired and I'm here with a story for you today about showing up and showing up in our lives and being present in the present moment is so important and I learned about showing up or became aware of showing up a few years ago when I was on a little hike.
I was in Ontario and I went for a hike by myself into an area I think it was Milton Falls or something like that.
It was a little hike,
Nothing extreme,
But it was a beautiful day and I was aware of the trees and the beauty of the sun coming through the trees.
But it was interesting because I was actually even though I was in a beautiful space and I was walking I was feeling a little frustrated.
I was a bit frustrated with what was happening in my life at the time.
I feel like I've been,
You know,
I was given this gift of soul telepathy and I was doing readings and tapping in and channeling messages and feeling really good about it and having lots of success and I was just asking like what's next?
What's next?
I was asking my guides like where are you?
What's next?
What's my next evolution?
I was feeling itchy for,
You know,
The next step,
The next the next thing and you know kind of almost being irritated with my guides saying,
You know,
Like show up.
What's what's next?
As I was hiking up this little hill,
Well at the top of the little hill was a really beautiful kind of a brook,
A creek,
Slightly bigger than a creek but not quite a river and it had this place where it kind of fell into a waterfall and so I found a spot to sit and I was,
You know,
Just really enjoying the space.
I was sitting on a log just watching and I was watching people come and go and you know there was a photographer,
There was,
You know,
A young family,
There were there was a couple that was exploring,
There was just people that sort of came and went as I was sitting there.
Well there was one fellow that I that I noticed that I saw and the only reason why I noticed him is because for one he looked like he had kind of a same reverence for the space that I did.
Like we I was sitting there on that log and becoming just really aware of of the of the way the water was swirling and of the lights and how the light played on the water and even though there was a little frog and different things and I was just I think it was a meditative state,
You know,
When I look back on it I wasn't consciously meditating but I was becoming so aware of my surroundings that I think I was in an open open state and I remember seeing this fellow and just noticing him because he seemed to have that same sort of feel about the place that I did and I also noticed that he appeared like he might be Indigenous and in my mind I was like I wonder what the Indigenous groups are in Ontario and I was you know just kind of rambling meandering thoughts through my mind nothing in particular.
There was no contact,
No eye contact,
There was there was no recognition other than those two aspects.
So I was immersed in my musings and my thinking and in the beauty of the space and yeah probably putting myself into a meditative state.
When all of a sudden I heard hey and I looked up and it was that fellow,
Quite a bit of time had passed and he was on the other side kind of on the there's a bit of a cliff on the other side and he was up on that on the bank on the other side on the cliff and he shouted again he said hey and I looked up and he said thanks for showing up and then he turned around and he walked away and you know went back down the hill I guess and I sat there thinking and I think I said oh yeah you too because I you know your brain sort of freezes I didn't know what to say and yeah you too seemed like the best response and then I sat there thinking thanks for showing up like that's a weird thing to say to somebody like you know we didn't have any conversation we didn't have any connection of any kind and here he says thanks for showing up and so I started thinking about it or reflecting on it was like thanks for showing up like what like that's strange and then then it switched into this place of gratitude where I started thanking myself for showing up and it was like thanks Nancy for showing up to this hike and thanks for showing up and in being in Ontario right now and thanks for showing up in this moment and then I started thanking myself for some of the difficult things and it's like thanks for showing up when you know your your daughter was pregnant thanks for showing up when you know you were leaving an abusive relationship thanks for showing up for your friends thanks for showing up when your son came out as trans and and showing up for you know the trans community and and I started thinking about some of the work that I've done but then it turned into just thanks for being present thanks for showing up any given day thanks for waking up and being present and being open to what the day has to offer and some days are ordinary days you get up you go to work or you do what you do and then you know some point you eat at some point you sleep some point you interact and if there's just you know regular days that that don't have any significant events and then you have other days that are like you know these big events positive or negative celebrations or challenges and what I started to realize in that moment sitting there on that log is that we show up at any given moment for any thing be it celebrations challenges or the mundane and sometimes that ordinary that ordinary and mundane is actually extraordinary and that showing up and just being present in that moment being you know rising to what we're called to do rising to being our best selves rising to helping others to become their best selves just by being a magnet of reflection a mirror that we are called in this life all we can do is show up and the more we show up in our life the more meaningful our existence the closer we get to that divine spirit to the closer we get to our sole purpose and so it it helped me to think and then as I was I was walking back down the hill and thinking about this message you know thanks for showing up I started recognizing you know and and making a commitment to myself to try to be conscious about showing up and starting to you know put myself out there a little bit taking some risks you know trying some things and just showing up and you know some of the things I tried I went no don't really want to do that again and then other things it was like yeah that's a passion and excitement and so it's about showing up and rather than allowing life to happen to us almost like victimhood you know this is what's going on now and this is the situation now and sort of allowing ourselves to live in that victimhood instead embracing and showing up to the good to the bad to the ugly to the positive the celebrations everything you know and and being an active participant in our lives you know and when I started reframing that perspective it was amazing how much more I felt in control I guess of what was happening and and and what I was bringing to the table and what was happening to me and it and it took this sense of being buffeted around like a tumbleweed here I'm doing this and now I'm doing this and it took it into every moment just trying to be present of course I don't maintain that all the time but that's my goal is to show up and so my friends thanks for showing up thanks for showing up and listening to my little rant about showing up and I hope that after listening to this you just take a look around and first of all honor and acknowledge all the ways that you have showed up in your life the positives negatives the challenges the celebrations the areas that you showed up and made decisions that were difficult and right now just show up with some gratitude for yourself and be like thank you thank you for showing up in that moment because that was hard or thank you for showing up in that moment to celebrate because celebrations are just as important as those challenges and that we we take in those celebrations and show up so right now just you know take a deep breath with me and just celebrate yourself with gratitude for showing up and now make the commitment that even in the next five minutes you're going to show up and be present to whatever comes your way and if you can extend that five minutes to five hours and five days and five months and five years and commit to yourself to to show up to be present it doesn't mean you have to act doesn't mean you have to take action just means that you show up and be present to everything that you're encountering in that moment and in the moments to come so my friends thank you so much for showing up I
